The better team won - on their third trip to the final in the last six World Cups. Croatia looked good, but they were out of gas after putting the pressure on in the first half.
Undoubtedly true that France was a better, and younger, team - but when you consider that France is a nation with 67 MILLION people - and that HALF their team was of immigrant African heritage - while Croatia’s team was fielded completely from Croatia’s tiny domestic population of 4.3 MILLION - I’d say that the Croats acquitted themselves QUITE WELL.
They have a lot to be proud of - just like the Croat 1992 Olympic Silver Medal they got after losing to the “Dream Team” in basketball ... they are a nation of sports “Overachievers”...
He’s turning Russia into a competitor instead of an enemy.

The announcers and journalists at the event made frequent mention of the 1990s Croatian war, in which the Croats defeated and slaughtered the Krajina Serbs (mislabeled “Croatian Serbs”), with the help of the clintons. The poor Serbs were labeled as “war criminals”, but the murderous Croats and their clintonite sponsors got off scott-free!

I would have been happier if Serbia, Russia, or England had knocked out Croatia earlier in the World Cup. (The US did not qualify.) But France knocked out Croatia in the end. Congratulations to the World Cup champion French team—Les Bleus!!!!

I thought Croatia played very well, and wouldn’t have wagered a dollar on either team - I thought they were well matched. Croatia should be proud, and France should as well; France didn’t “get lucky”.
Yes, France was the tournament favorite, but anything could happen in 1 game. Croatia had a couple of bad breaks on the first two goals, and it took the wind out of their sails. As the match went on France’s younger legs and greater quality depth on the bench made the difference.
100,000 fans await the Croatian team at the Main Square (Trg Bana Jelacica) in Zagreb. The plane bringing them home had “Bravo to the Fiery Ones” printed on its side. That’s a reference to the country’s nickname for the soccer team during this World Cup.
No different than if they had actually won. This type of thing is a much, MUCH bigger deal for a tiny country like Croatia ...
Watching HRT live this morning - Hundreds of thousands lining the parade route from the airport to downtown Zagreb as the bus creeps towards its destination. Dang. Wish I was there to take part in the festivities. A lot more civilized than what went on in Paris yesterday ...
I don’t think France was THE favorite, but definitely in the top 5. Croatia really expended a lot of energy in the first half, and was out of gas later. Both teams played well; I was glad it didn’t require the overtime & shootouts that seemed to dominate this Cup.
