Fine. If y’all are African and so damn proud, then get your ...self... back over there and avoid all the discrimination, hate and racism you constantly experience here. He makes what, couple mil/year? Pound sand, darky.

Soccer has never been my cup of tea to watch or play. But I think if people want to watch it...I am all for it.

I enjoyed playing baseball as a kid, but as an adult, I simply cannot watch it. I always kind of liked the concept of being at the beach or sitting on the porch listening to it in the background on the radio with a beer in my hand and someone else to talk to, but I can’t follow it. Too slow for me.

I used to like basketball, but over the years, it just seemed to turn into: run up the court...pass shoot, basket. Other team goes back the other way, pass...shoot...basket. Over and over again. I went to a professional game in the mid-nineties, and was bored out of my mind.

Hockey I loved, used to play for about 15 years, and used to either watch or play about every other night, but it became unwatchable in the Nineties with all the trap defenses and clutch and grab, and I lost interest and never went back. I heard it has improved with some rule changes that speed up the game, but can’t find the time to watch now.

I am all for anything people want to do as a sport, and if money can be made off it, even better. Power to them!

Disagree. At least golf has usually beautiful scenery involved. Plus there is a “score” by four players on every hole.

I actually prefer watching paint dry to watching soccer.

(And I have even been known to watch collegiate bowling to escape watching soccer!)

I’ve only seen one complete soccer game. Many years ago a British lady that had caught my eye asked me to take her to a soccer game in the Astrodome. When I left her apartment the next morning, I was polite enough to not shout, “GOAL!”

will France hit back at Obama?

17 Jul: NPR: Transcript: Obama’s Speech At The 2018 Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture
OBAMA: “Political division based on color is entirely artificial and, when it disappears, so will the domination of one color group by another.” That’s Nelson Mandela speaking in 1964, when I was three years old. (Applause.)...
What was true then remains true today...
And it is a truth that, by the way, when embraced, actually delivers practical benefits, since it ensures that a society can draw upon the talents and energy and skill of all its people.
And if you doubt that, just ask the French football team that just won the World Cup. (Cheers and applause.) Because not all of those folks – not all of those folks look like Gauls to me. (Laughter.) But they’re French. They’re French. (Laughter.)...

I understand, and absolutely respect your opinion. I grew up loving baseball, and it seems dwindling in popularity among kids. That said, at least partially because I don’t understand it, there are few things more boring to me than watching cricket..

When France won in 1998, many in France waved the Algerian flag because of Zinedine Zadane, who was born to Algerian parents.

So are the Golden State Warriors an “African” team, too?

If you noticed, ALL of the French players were singing “La Marseillaise” before the match....no knee-taking, nor raised fists.

Fifteen of the 23-man French World Cup squad have family origins in Africa ranging from Cameroon to Congo and Mali, although only two of them were born in Africa and moved to France when they were still toddlers.

Yeah, and Croatia which also went to the finals of the World Cup has a population of only 4 million and their entire team was white. That is far more impressive than what France did, given that the French team was sourcing their team from a population pool of up to a billion Africans and French, while Croatia was limited to sourcing their players from a pool of just 4 million people.

Racial stock of the Croatia-2018 World Cup team:
— 100% European ancestry [23.0/23.0],
—- of which, the majority element is Dinarid/Alpinid with substantial Mediterranean and Nordid/Cro-Magnid components
— 0% Subsaharan African and all other racial ancestries [0/23.0]..

a triumph for diversity

I'd be more impressed if it had triumphs in STEM.

Maduro, Marxist dictator of Venezuela said the same thing. It’s curious how all of the people who said this are also in the same boat with him.

For the problems Islamists have created in France, it has been cited about how few Muslims there were on the team, like one that I saw who came in as a sub, last name began with F. Say what one wants, these fellows with the Sub-Saharan heritage tended to have Christian names.

The Frenchmen with African ancestry were born and raised in France, and their loyalties are to France.

About the only teams that are pretty much all with ancestry from their own countries are:

1. Iceland - try getting on that team if your last name doesn’t end in “...son”.

2. Croatia - most of the players have last names ending in “..ic”.

3. Serbia- also a lot of players with names ending in “..ic”.

4. Russia - All ethnic Russians, although one player is Mario Fernandes, who was granted Russian citizenship shortly before the World Cup started.

5. Mexico’s roster is all from Mexican heritage, but that is very diverse.

6. South American rosters are pretty much all of those nations’ ethnic heritage.

7. The African nations’ players are all from their ethnic heritage; with very few exceptions.

Anyone complaining about the make-up of rosters of other countries needs to look at the US National team roster.

The only white player who is of world class is Christian Pulisic, who plays for Borussia Dortnund in the Bundesliga. He is so good, he will likely be bought by one of the top five clubs in Europe and start. He’s that good, and only 19 years old.

We once chided the Brits about cricket being slower than grass growing; however, if you play it or understand the rules, one day or limited over cricket is much faster moving than major league baseball. Test cricket (5 day) is still exceedingly slow but is a good excuse to have several pints and nap in the sun.
