Why Don’t More Men Take Their Wife’s Last Name?
The Atlantic ^ | July 25, 2018 | Caroline Kitchner

In the run-up to marriage, many couples, particularly those of a more progressive bent, will encounter a problem: What is to be done about the last name?

Some have attempted work-arounds: the Smiths and Taylors who have become Smith-Taylors, Taylor-Smiths, or—more creative—Smilors. But there just isn’t always a good, fair option. (While many straight couples fall back on the option of a woman taking her husband’s last name, same-sex couples have no analogous default.)

Being a Christian nation, naming is paternal-based.

I have always thought the hyphenated name was stupidity. Consider the names I would have had to deal with. My last name is Weathersby. My Mother’s maiden name was Zuiderhoek. I have been planning to get a jersey with the hyphenated name Zuiderhoek-Weathersby just to make fun of the clowns.

Why stop at parents? Why not grandparents? Then my jersey would read: Zuiderhoek-Roy-Money-Weathersby.

Our culture has become ridiculous.

In Việt Nam no one changes his name on marrying. Nguynễ Thị Linh is still Nguyễn Thị Linh and Trần Văn Khanh is still Trần Văn Khanh. The children get the father's surname.

Decisions, decisions...For a male: keep your father’s last name or take the last name of your father-in-law.

Or, for that matter, the last name of your mother-in-law! That should put the cuck in perspective.

Why do women take their husband’s last name?

Tradition. Respect. Love.

While I would not call the young man an ‘Alpha’, he seems like a very nice guy, he loves his wife dearly, and I think he just wanted to be part of their family. I know nothing of his family life.

Sounds like he would rather be part of their family than avow membership in his own family. He might be estranged from his family. Not a good sign!

Regards,
