Yep and let's not forget one of the most potent forms of fake news: Omission. That is, you can report technically completely truthfully all year long and the entire year of reporting is just one big fake narrative built on cherry picked factoid widgets that build a completely distorted story about reality.
That's one difference between 'lying' and 'fake news.' Fake news may not tell a single lie, but the underlying lie is that they gave you the truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth ... about what actually took place in the physical universe. Lots of fake news eliminates the little part about the 'whole truth.' Whether that be neglecting to mention parts of story, or just leaving out whole stories entirely.
So fake news isn't just 'a fact' being true or false, which is really what 'lying' is about.
