Column: Remember Kaepernick, Reid as training camps open
AP ^ | July 27, 2018 | Paul Newberry

As NFL training camps opened this week, complete with interminable speculation about position battles, rookies who might make an impact and what players can or can’t do while “The Star-Spangled Banner” is playing, let’s remember two players who aren’t suiting up.

Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid are good enough to be playing for someone.

That much is beyond debate.

Money quote:

But all those players who are lucky enough to have a job, some of whom were just as visible and vocal in their calls for social justice, should be pondering what they can do to help get Kaepernick and Reid back on the field.

Maybe a one-day sickout during training camp. Or kneeling en masse before the first game. Perhaps, as a last resort, they should consider an actual strike.

Go ahead make my day.

Either one is making a principled stand and accepting the repercussions, or one is posturing.

I can’t tell which is the case here.

Where are all the players lobbying their team’s owner to sign Kapernick? You’d think he’d have some vocal support like this if he is such an unused asset.

It’s a form of NIMBY-ism. Kapernick should be playing...uh, just not on my team.

I have one for Newberry, how about he just submits articles to his paper that are the opposite of what he is asked to and lets see how long before his employers stop accepting his 'work' and no one hires him. If these players want to do this shit, let them start their own league.

They can call it the bankrupt league because no one really wants to see or hear over payed athletes whine and bitch.

It’s been a complete garbage product for years even without all this kneeling crap. They should just quit playing the game and do chest slapping and swishy celebration dancing competitions for three hours, I think that is what the players are into anyhow.

Its been what - 3 years since Kaepernick played football? I'd be willing to see him sign on to a team only to see his head taken off or knee blown out to end this media nonsense that 1) he's a good player, and that 2) he's ready to play again.

True, even before Kaepernick and the whole anthem thing, the game has gotten more and more unwatchable. Players are more athletic, but the “Football IQ” has dropped tremendously.

They do love to ignore that part. Reid was a fair player but there’s thousands like him and without any baggage. Last season he played, Krappedink’s numbers were abysmal.

It’s been what? About three years since Kaep has played as a team member and in real time. He’s going to be 30 years old in a few weeks. I’m sure he has trained on his own, and is much better than your average 30 y/o playing Weekend Touch Football, but who knows if he could do the job now at a pro level?

Maybe he could beat out Johnny Football for a position with the Montreal Alouettes.

Good question. Montreal expressed some interest, but I think CK showed no interest in playing in Canada. Just more evidence he's only it for the SJW publicity.

I'm no fan of Ray Lewis, but he had Kaepernick's situation figured out perfectly back in the summer of 2017.

When asked why Kaepernick hadn't been signed even by a team desperate for a backup QB who could start in an emergency, he said: "Because nobody is convinced he actually wants to play football anymore."

I'm sure this is exactly what's going on with that loser. It was reinforced last year when Kaepernick filed his grievance against the NFL for allegedly blacklisting him. He filed the grievance literally hours after it was announced that Green Bay QB Aaron Rogers would miss the rest of the season with an injury. He filed the grievance because he would have had no case if Green Bay called him up and offered him a contract.

A few years ago I tried watching a playoff game, I couldn’t believe how many stoppages happened, it had absolutely no flow. Also the glitz level was horrendous. My biggest beef has always been it’s a league where the players can’t or won’t self police each other, thus raging hulk poses and fruity gyrations after meaningless plays in blow outs. They had to come up with lame rules for acting like a jerk ‘excessively’.

"players who are lucky enough to have a job"...

and there it is.....

they are lucky to have a job...

because in a sane society big fat stupid arrogant guys like some of these players would be collecting welfare checks and hanging out at the Chicken and Watermelons of the world...

football has just been ruined for me...
