I do not believe there are any materials applied-egineering processes that have found their answers to their problems using string theory. It is fine for explaining things to other string theorists, but of no empirical application.

The error of it stems from a logical error of some mathemeticians, when they think that if they can merely create something by the manipulation of mathematical formulas alone, then the universe DOES create it, somewhere/time. Again, the models start with factors the theorists imagines, because there is not an empirical evidence factor for it.

Its mathematical play, and very expensive, and very wasteful, but keeps some mathematicians employed, when they might turn their inquistive minds to more socially dangerous pursuits, cause they don’t have any other dam thing to do.

“But let’s not get carried away by routinely equating brainstorming to other highly confirmed scientific theories.”

Which in terms of todays funding for it IS the illegitimate status it has obtained.

It’s like saying “includes everything”. How can there be two of it? The definition of the word precludes it.

String theory is satisfying and beautiful but lacks evidence. Sounds like MSM with the Russian collusion theory.

What would be beautiful is if string theory could prove that there are exactly four universes--a string quartet.

String theory is incredibly appealing to many scientists because it is "beautiful"—its equations are satisfying and its proposed explanations elegant. But so far it lacks any experimental evidence supporting it

Thomas Huxley: "Nothing so sad as to see a beautiful theory slain by one ugly fact." String theory is no more than mental masturbation.

Actually, no one ever argued that tidbit about angels. It was just a way of ridiculing people of faith. As for string theory, yes. Why not, when there is nothing riding on it.

Not sure I agree. In quantum physics multiple instances of "if it CAN happen (according to the math), it WILL happen" have been observed. One example would be electron tunneling.

"Real multiverses occur only when you memorize long passages of scripture or poetry."

String Theory is Jabberwocky! ;-)

Basic quantum physics is not string theory.

String him up!

Doesn’t matter. If math allows for the possibility, and the math is 1) logically consistent and 2) doesn’t violate first principles, it does seem to happen in nature. Black hole radiation is another example, gravity waves and virtual particles annihilating one another with real particle production are others.

"It is true that if this landscape picture is correct, the bit of the universe we're in compared to the multiverse will be like our solar system within the universe,"

Wrong. We are able to observe and validate that the universe outside the solar system exists. There is no way to validate that the multiverse exists therefore this whole theory becomes a dead end. One may as well believe in God than believe in multiverses. They both require faith in something that can't be observed.
