From time to time I've been catching up with a Republican strategist who is trying to help the GOP keep control of the House in this November's midterm elections. It's been an up-and-down ride.
"I would put the odds of keeping the House at exactly 50-50," he told me in January.
"I get how bad things seemingly are," he said during a particularly tumultuous time in April. "But if the election were today, I'd bet my son's college tuition we'd keep the House."
He was even more confident by June. "We keep the House," he told me. "I'd bet a lot of money on that." And now: "The last 30 days have been really bad. I really wouldn't want to have the election today."
Looking back, each change in the strategist's mood has been the result of whatever President Trump was doing at that particular moment. His current anguish is the product of what he called "30 days of sh-t." By that, he meant the period of time beginning with Trump's decision to separate families crossing illegally into the United States and ending with his performance at the Helsinki summit.

BS!
Election season starts after the World Series................
Republican strategist

Who is he talking to, Karl Rove?
OMG, these GOP strategists are so wimpy. What is wrong with them. Just go with the good economy and stop worrying about everything the President does. Geez.
The disgusting “Republican” swampthings will keep their majorities if that has priority over serving their masters, who bought and paid for them. I repeat myself: They hate their voting fodder.
What was his prediction for the 2016 presidential election, even as late as October of that year? That alone would tell me how seriously his forecast here should be taken.
A “Republican strategist” working for a RINO Trump-hater is the very last person anyone, anywhere should listen to.
And then, voicing his opinion through Byron York?
Sheesh.
It was actually an old Clinton staffer working in a county office.
Meanwhile, large segments of the Dem left wing are demanding ICE be abolished. That far outweighs politically anything Trump has done, but the open borders types don't get such.
More people leaving the Marxist Liberal Party!
A gay, black army veteran became a Republican and simultaneously became the Democrats worst nightmare.

Sorry, just recalling seeing Reagan and Nancy at Liberty State Park , Labor Day 1980.
Trump’s poll #s have gone up during that time, so this makes no sense.
I dont know anybody whose senate or rep vote changes weekly based on the most recent performance of the president.
Nothing like a RINO strategist who really wants Dems to “win”.
What will make normal Americans explode is the unresolved voter fraud issue. California’s politicians are committing treason openly.
BS indeed! Trump didn’t decide to separate families at the border, that was standard practice throughout Obama’s terms in office and standard practice whenever adults commit crimes. It was that the media lied and said Trump just started it.
“Election season starts after the World Series................”
As usual the DC swamp still do not understand poltical in the age of Trump. As they have been since 2015 they still keep trying to fit Trump in the prism of traditional DC politics.
It exactly that corrupt DC culture that Trump was elected to destroy.
Wow you just inserted some reality into this discussion. Trump did just fine with Putin, and the VAST majority of Americans do not support illegal immigration. If this unnamed analyst is right, it just means the media can herd enough people to swing the election.
The analyst missed a wildly expanding economy which is beating all predictions? Republicans can’t win on that they need to turn it over to a new party with some brains and you know what.
