Trump at rally makes false claim on photo IDs for groceries
MSN /AP ^ | August 1, 2018

President Donald Trump on Tuesday wrongly claimed that shoppers need to show photo identification to buy groceries and accused Democrats of obstructing his agenda and his Supreme Court nominee during a raucous rally aimed at bolstering two Florida Republicans ahead of the state's primary. Trump, addressing thousands of supporters in one of the nation's top electoral battlegrounds, also mounted a rigorous defense of his trade agenda, accusing China and others of having "targeted our farmers."

"Not good, not nice," he told the crowd as tensions with China continue to escalate, adding: "You know what our farmers are saying? 'It's OK, we can take it." The Trump administration last week announced plans for $12 billion in temporary aid to help farmers deal with retaliatory tariffs from U.S. trading partners in response to Trump's policies.

Tuesday night's freewheeling rally lasted more than an hour and included numerous attacks on the media, as well as one glaring false claim. Trump was railing against the idea of noncitizens voting and advocating stricter voting laws when he claimed that IDs are required for everything else, including shopping.

"If you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID," he said at the event at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. "You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID and you need your picture."

Did he talk about watching Black churches getting burned to the ground when he was a child?

They’re getting desperate.

The only reason the MSM covers his rallies is to see if he says something outrageous they can harp about the next day.

So this is all they’ve got?

"You do if you go to Sam’s Club."

Don't let the truth get in the way of another hot story by the fake news.

The AP has been venomously anti-Trump/anti-America lately. Nothing they say should be believed any longer.

When I heard PDJT say this in his more than an hour long speech, I knew that it would be the one thing that the propaganda media would latch on to. Was it on purpose just to get the topic of ID out there? Or was it one single slip?

Question: Can states require a photo ID on the electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards used by individuals who receive food stamps?

Under federal law, states can require that EBT cards for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) include photos of the beneficiaries or that customers show photo ID to use the cards.

Massachusetts is the only state that currently has such a law.(2014)

The AP has been venomously anti-Trump/anti-America lately.

Lately? How about forever. And that goes for their bastard offspring, too, laughingly called “Yahoo News”.

You do if you go to Sam’s Club.

And at WalMart and CostCo. The problem with MSN/CBS/CNN/ABC/etc/etc is they never go to the ordinary stores.

In context, the statement was fine. What President Trump was conveying is that people have to show photo ID in all kinds of situations. but not voting. There are times with affinity cards and checks I've been asked to show photo ID in grocery and other retail situations.

In two recent elections, I voted "downtown" early. I had to show photo ID with a birth date to get a Senior discount for a bus ticket, but not to vote!

If he said it was 89 degrees outside some AP hack would say he lied as it was 90. This was a campaign rally with rhetoric not a warrant application which they never say was false. What surprised me was trump endorsed Scott but Scott was not there.

Sam’s Club requires a Sam’s Club ID card, complete with picture. Some, but not all, stores will often request picture ID for checks. So it is AP making a false statement to support its anti-voter ID position.

It’s not entirely false claim, you can be asked for ID anytime you use a credit or debit card... doesn’t happen often, but you can indeed be cahllenged and asked for an ID to use a card anytime and anywhere.
