More than 600 people got sick after eating at one Chipotle. Health officials don’t know why yet.

Chipotle in Powell between July 26 and 30

Chipotle said that it voluntarily closed the store last week for 24 hours after the period the illnesses were reported, replacing all of its food and cleaning and sanitizing the restaurant.

Sheila L. Hiddleson, the health commissioner from the county, said in an email that it was still awaiting lab results to determine the cause of the sicknesses.

The Dayton Daily News said that tests have so far come back negative for Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli and Norovirus.

Chipotle has had some high-profile issues with food safety before. A federal inquiry examined the Denver-based chain’s food safety practices in 2015 after 207 people became ill with norovirus after eating at an outpost in California. As The Post’s Caitlin Dewey reported, outbreaks of E. coli, salmonella and norovirus prompted it to close more than 2,000 locations for food safety training in February 2016.

I view it as “men engaging in risky behavior”!

the guys running Chipotle haven’t yet quite gotten the message the Deep State expects “their” cut of all American business.. Taxes don’t count BTW

“that’s a mighty fine lil’ business you git there...gotta watch out for busted windows n’all...could be too bad..”

Ain’t hard to figure out when you hire people who come from a region where a toilet is some futuristic technology, and sanitation consists of wiping your butt with your hand and then wiping it onto a wall.

Or possibly industrial sabotage

It seems suspicious that they keep getting hit with these outbreaks and other similar places don't. Supposedly Chipotle brought in food scientists and epidemiologists to advise them after the prior outbreaks. So they should know how to prevent this kind of thing from happening, if it's not being done on purpose.

The employees I’ve seen look just fine - the usual young part-time food service workers, probably students.

Maybe that's the problem. Perhaps they need people with a little more sense of responsibility to handle this type of food.

As long as one remembers that “organic” is a nice word for “manure”, these Chipotle cases are quite as hard to figure out.

As they used to say, ‘Better living through chemistry’

How many times is Chipotle going to poison patrons, before people figure out it’s not a safe place to eat? Employees are either not being properly trained, or they are ignoring good training, and not being properly supervised. Knowing human nature, I can guarantee you, that there are employees who either do not understand, or do not see the importance of following hygienic practices. Every food worker should be trained in such a manner, as to be shown, by kits available, that without good hand washing, and other hygiene practices, germs will proliferate rapidly. All they have to do, is to apply the training substance to their hands, that will not come off unless THOROUGH hand washing is performed. They also should be shown pictures illustrating the rapidity and scope of germ multiplication, as well as videos of employees, doing unsanitary things, like picking their noses, sneezing on food, or scratching themselves. Never overestimate the compliance and understanding of training, especially among teens and the poorly educated.

They admit they don’t use preservatives. From their website:

“No added flavors, colors, or preservatives of any kind”

And they admit to useing “organic”

“The organic soybeans used to make the tofu for our Sofritas are not genetically modified”

Not a pathogen? Which surprised me, given the history of vegetable crops as toilet paper.

How about a toxin, as in Herbicides and/or Insecticides?

I won’t eat a Chipotle. They hire illegal aliens

I always assume that mom and pop Mexican restaurants hire illegals, (almost nobody speaks English, except the owners), but there have never been any contamination illnesses, in the several of them located in our area. But then, they seem to watch the help like a hawk. Supervision is key.

If it only occurred at one Chipotle than it's not from suppliers, that leaves the individual store. I am going to go with double jeopardy and what is sanitation practices and employee heatlh for a $1000 Alex?

Chipotle is this decades jack in the Box, how long until they have a number of deaths on their hands?

“lab results to determine the cause of the sicknesses”
Betting the cause of the sickness is not in the lab, but in the choice of employees.”””

AMEN

They need to be testing every single employee.

A couple of years ago, there was a massive Measles outbreak in the Los Angeles School system.

They FINALLY traced it back to a single employee at one restaurant at DISNEYLAND. The guy was an ILLEGAL who had fake papers.

Over 10% of the school system population was out with Measles.

You have 60 iq people trying to handle fresh food properly...it is disgusting... I would never eat there. Frozen to fryer is all most of their employees can handle.

I hired my son’s friend to work for us printing shirts.

Jim was nice enough, but called in sick often. Mostly on Mondays.

When he came in, it was usually obvious that he hadn’t bathed or showered. Hygiene was not a priority.

After two years he left us to work for a “socially relevant and responsible” company. He became an assistant manager at Chipotle.

Just remember, you can’t spell Chipotle without “pot”...
