A Rottweiler killed our cat. It dug under a 6 ft privacy fence to get in my yard to kill it. But too is “actually gentle and is great with people.”

Our neighbor had a Labradoodle that was the sweetest thing going.

With people.

She saw anything on more than two legs and it was just about Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

They kept her fencing in and leashed all the time. They NEVER let her run loose.

She could not have had a better home with owners that loved her and trained her and cared for her.

She never hurt a person, but they also made sure she never got to another animal. They were always on guard about other people bringing their dogs around cause they weren't sure how she was going to react towards them.

Great dog and great neighbors.

There are many millions of pit/mixes; the ones that bite are rabidly post on FR for haters to beat on as a pinata.

Get a life, get over it.

There is an amazing diversity of dog breeds. Each has it’s unique combination of physical build and temperament, and was suited to a particular task. Trying to deny a pitbulls characteristics and pretend it is a gentle domestic pet will obviously result in a high number of spontaneous attacks.

There are 5-20 million pitbulls in America maybe more

Who knows

In its generic form it’s the most common breed

Surge in popularity amongst thugs and wiggers....

15-30 deaths a year from 5-20 million pits

Rottweilers are second in fatalities and are some reckon more proportionally prone to kill

There are far fewer Rotts these days unlike the mid 70s after the Omen films when their numbers exploded

Chihuahuas nite most

Goldens more than Pits

Be glad there aren’t 20 million Kangols or Dogos owned by trash at such high rates

And that Chihuahuas are not 100 pounds

Norski takes heat?

Please that’s ridiculous

He and Chet or if they are the same live in an echo chamber here of at least 90%

Pit bull threads daily even if about old stories

Yet never about other dog bites or mailings resulting in death

I see so much histrionics

Kill all pit bulls

I’d shoot them on site ..

With my 9.....whooo so scary...a 9

Kill all pitbull owners

Make all pit bull owners have one million in liability....why stop there

Give pit bull owners the death penalty

This is the reasonableness of pit bull obsessed folks here

Chet did this for a decade I think till he screwed up over gay marriage or some thing

11-6-2010

Day of Chet bolt ride

Has come back a few times...

That’s why you rarely see a pic/vid or read the name of the owners. Protected class in most cases. MSM won’t do anything to make them look bad.

Pit bulls. Again.

I know there are fans of pit bulls here but how come you never see these kind of stories involving golden retrievers or collies?

From here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States
It goes back to 1887 and up to 2018. Not much pre-WWII stuff so I started with 1942. Got tired of typing at 2004 but the Pit Bull trend continues and increases from there. It’s a numbers thing. Took 20-30 years to start getting German dogs here after the war but when they get here, the fatal attacks begin. Meanwhile Pit Attacks 1945, 1965, 1981 and then it starts to pick up for certain years but doesn’t get real regular until the 90s-2000s. But you can see the trend in ownership/population. German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers Huskies, Chows and Pit Bulls. All “badass” dogs that people who think of themselves as badasses want to own.

Got tired of typing but as can be seen, aside from 86, 87, 92, there weren’t very many Pit Bulls until around 2000. Prior to 2000, it was German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies and then Rottweilers and Dobermans. From 2005 on, it’s a fairly mixed lot of German Shepherds, Huskies, Rottweilers, Dobermans and Pit Bulls, plus other dogs. As the years go by, Pit Bulls increase as other breeds decrease. This is likely due to popularity amogn certain groups of people.

If a cat was big enough, say puma size, they might eat you.

I'm surprised a Golden Retriever even made your list of fatal dog attacks. I had to look up that one (from 1974) and indeed the victim was a 5-year-old girl - Toni Lynn Edgeworth (1968-1974). She died of multiple dog bites by a neighbor's golden retriever. I'm unable to pull up the details.

I have never seen a Golden Retriever act viciously unless provoked but it's important to realize that as cuddly as some dogs are, they are still animals and they act on base instinct when they feel threatened. So they always need to be treated with the proper respect. I always had "gentle" dog breeds as pets but I always taught my children to be careful in their "rough" play and to recognize the warning signs that a dog is about to turn hostile - the signs are always there if you know what to look for.

I have no desire whatsoever to own a dog breed like a Pit Bull or a Rottweiler. It is usually insecure men who feel they need to project a "badass" image that seem to own them. I wouldn't even own a German Shepherd as a pet as I consider them "working dogs" and potentially dangerous around children. That said, I have total respect for the German Shepherd breed and recognize their value in K-9 units and other military/law enforcement roles.

I have always heard that a pit bull is the same as an American Staffordshire Terrier, but they are NOT. The pits that have gone ape, are America Pit Bulls, a bigger, more aggressive breed. I never could reconcile the American Staffordshire, Dr. James Herriot’s favorite breed, and the pit bulls of the killer American dog breed. American Staffordshire’s are also called pits bulls, but they are a separate breed. Am Staffs, as they are called, are shorter, and have a stockier build. We saw 2 at a rest stop yesterday. They look a lot like an English bulldog, without the underlying jaw. One of them wasn’t even on leash.

I’ve owned dogs that scare freepers 60 years Really? What type of dog would " scare freepers 60 years" if you chose to keep dogs that scare rational people. well then, you have defined yourself as an ass ***e. I don't think youre an ass***e. so why to you want to come off as being one, by harboring a dog that threatens people. real or not. you seem to have unresloved anger issues that are reflected in your choice to own scary dogs because they scare people. Either way this is about a north carolina woman who was killed by a pack of dogs, 2 of them being pit bull types. Not about how you feel empowered being a scary dog owner .

Thank you for posting this. I was not planning to post yesterday at all. A death changes plans . . . this one is not even an article, just a brief Sheriff’s statement - and is on Drudge.

To the lady’s husband: I am very sorry for your loss. May a gracious God comfort you in your sorrow at this time, and may you and your wife be reunited in Heaven.

I hate that people/renters that you described make things harder for GOOD renters like me! I rent my home, have two very nice Keeshonds and a fenced in yard. I’d still like to walk them occasionally, but have a few homeowner neighbors that love to let their pits out without leashes to roam the neighborhood.

So not worth even trying to walk safely even if I walked them separately with my stun gun and revolver. I figure if I ever had to use at least the stun gun all I’d do is piss off an idiot dog owner who thinks their pit bull can do no wrong - and next thing I know poisoned meatballs will end up in my yard or something.
Can’t stand pits, but hate idiot dog owners more.

Its called the Timothy Treadwell Syndrome> People who just have to keep wild or dangerous animals to get power from scaring others with their dangerous animals or to show how brave and fearless and more able than everyone else by being able to safely keep dangerous animal as a pet.
