Heckuva song. “Some velvet morning when I’m straight”...”Look at us but do not touch...” If you still need a road sign, you weren’t there.

That Cusco group was a German band, IIRC. But they had a great South American sound.

Because there’s more to life than silly political memes.

Wow, I haven’t heard that song since 1967! I was 16 and into “underground” FM stations and psychedelic rock, so songs like this one didn’t appeal to me at all. I think the song would have been better with more verses and more mysterious, intriguing lyrics...something like Dylan could have written. As it is, there’s no story being told and it’s too repetitious. It had a lot of promise, but needed more depth.

Ah, the good old days when men were men and women were women. Trannies only put on freak shows on the Barbary Coast and at Finocchio’s Club in San Fran.

I remember dating Candy in high school who wore skirts like Nancy’s in that video.

Check out the 1962 movie “Phaedra” starring the otherwise despicable Melina Mercouri as a modern day cougar in competition with her own daughter for a young man’s attentions.

I was eighteen in 1967 and remember well that line “I’m gonna open up your gate, and tell you all about Phaedra”.

Liked Nancy Sinatra much better in “Something stupid” that same summer.

Their other joint venture from the same time, “Summer Wine”, is better known. Even gets a little oldies airplay once in a while.

I always liked that tune. If I were to do a science experiment with music I expect this would be the result.

That video looks like a bad acid trip with music.

The song only rose to #24 on the national charts—in February, 1968—but it was a big hit out here.

Hazelwood was brought in to try and jumpstart Sinatra’s singing career which was going nowhere.
As to Phaedra, she was the wife of Theseus king of the Athenians. Check your Greek mythology for reference.

Amazing how many of those Bond themes-songs were so good. Shirley Bassey sang Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. Tom Jones just killed it with Thunderball and Matt Munro on From Russia With Love...and then there’s Nancy doing that wonderful version of You Only Live twice!

I actually have many versions of these songs, mostly instrumentals from musicians like Hugo Montenegro, Leroy Holmes and Billy Strange and they have that perfect 1960’s psychedelic sound that I love so much.
