I noticed the quality and intelligence of dispatchers dropping as well.
It seemed like the people who couldn’t cut the mustard as drivers ended up being dispatchers.
Combine a not too bright driver with a not too bright dispatcher and you have a recipe for idiocy that grows exponentially.
You would figure that in three years someone would set her straight.

“When asked if he saw the “no trucks” and the “truck exit only” sign he said “yes” but then extolled on how it didn’t apply to him.”

He sounds like the SWIFT driver who showed up at a Wal-Mart distro center at 1:00pm and couldn’t understand why they were turning him away for being late.
His BOL showed his delivery time as 01:00 which we know is 1:00am. No one had told him the trucking business operates on the 24 hour clock.
Another driver and I gave him a tutorial on pick up and delivery times.

I blame a lot of it on the CDL mills that aren’t concerned about teaching but are only concerned with the money. If you can walk and breathe at the same time they graduate you.

I also blame some of the old timers who won’t take the time to help the younger drivers. I’ve seen quite a few who would rather bitch about the youngsters than help them learn to become proper Drivers.
Of course I ran into quite a few who went out of their way to help others because it was how THEY were taught.

Good luck with the new crowd. Just be glad Schneider didn’t import those 2,000 drivers from India some years ago.
That would have been a real clusterscrew of a goat rodeo!

On the other hand, you have the newbies who refuse to listen to the experienced drivers.
Seen that too.

As for dispatchers.. “It’s only that far apart on the map! Why can’t you get there in five minutes?!”
“That far apart” turns out to be a two hour drive, and dispatch can’t comprehend this.

Schneider east coast tier did one better, they sent a guy out my way behind the wheel without a CDL.
He was bragging about it, when asked how he got here without hitting the DOT stop he stated that he heard where they were and bypassed the locations.
Plausible in my immediate location.
I just hope he was pulling my leg.
But, seeing some of the things happening, I’m not sure.

Had an “Outwest” driver looking for the Walmart terminal show up at my exit, she backed up just out of sight before flying down the driveway for the third time.
“The cops told me you have to let me in!” she said.
Wally world has their terminal over by the local yellow freight terminal, about ten miles away.
And she refused to listen to me about it.
So she conjured phantom cops to try and enter my truckyard.

Stay safe out there, it’s only going to get worse before there is an improvement.

I had forgotten about the boneheads who INSIST they learned everything there was to know at their driving school. :(

I hated driving for mid-west dispatchers.
I tried to explain many times that rush hour traffic on the east coast stretched from Boston, MA to Richmond, Va. and on Fridays it stretched into NC.
They couldn’t comprehend it.
They figured once past NYC it was open highway.
