I’m curious, do they even sell NON smart phones anymore, without built in GPS?

I'd like to know the same thing. I have a TracFon plan and their cheapest phone -- just for emergencies. It's got Google/Android and it gobbles up battery like there's no tomorrow. I never use the thing, but it has to be charged constantly. I've tried shutting down "services" but that doesn't seem to help, and they often restart themselves. I turn the phone OFF -- shut it down -- on weekends. Does that stop the tracking?

IIRC the GPS was added (mandated) for 911 emergency services. The phone number and it's home address showed up on the 911 operators console. This was good for a land line, but lousy for cell phones. :^)

I also seem to remember one of the small Federally required extra charges on your home phone bill was to fund the 911 operators GPS locating stuff.

Yes. Easily found on eBay. The LG VX8300 is a good one. Tough as nails and easy to get your number switched to. I used to use one but, I've been forced into a touch screen, app driven monstrocity. I'm still trying to get it mostly locked down.
