I often wondered out of all of the hotels why someone would book at say the Rio, Circus Circus, the Stratosphere or even ten more places like that Excalibur dump etc.
Save a hundred bucks on your Vegas vacation?

Speaking of the Stratosphere i walked there once, thought i was in some mexican ghost town for a while till i finally got to that place.

A few years ago, the wife was insisting that we go to Vegas.

I hated every minute of it, and I vowed I would never go back. It’s a shadow of its’ former self.

Good question. At the risk of answering a rhetorical, there are still plenty of people who don’t have a clue or, more often, only look at the price tag. They are the same people who look like refugees in their $8 t-shirts and $10 sneakers. They may have the money but they’re obsessed with the price of everything and think they’re ‘saving.’

The properties known as grind joints in Vegas are counting on these people to buy stay-and-play package deals and suckers’ come-ons like $25 in ‘free’ casino credit. They play 5-10-25 cent slots and video poker and might play $2 blackjack.

It keeps the lights on - barely - and the crypt-keeper dealers keep showing up. The decor, the carpet, etc. are literally threadbare and at least one property relies on an individual dealer’s iPod piped through the PA rather than pay ASCAP/BMI fees or music-stream subscriptions.
