PORTLAND, Ore. A single mother fatally shot her severely disabled 7-year-old son and then attempted suicide after years spent caring for her child, authorities and family friends in Oregon said Wednesday.
A relative found Tashina Aleine Jordan, 28, unconscious Monday at the Bend home she shared with her son and mother. Authorities found the boy, named Mason, and pronounced him dead. Notes at the scene indicated Jordan was the shooter, police spokesman Lt. Clint Burleigh told KTVZ-TV.
Jordan remained hospitalized Wednesday and clinging to life after taking a combination of pills, said Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel.

From the Poor Headline Department.
There’s more to the story:
Mason had cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus, according to KTVZ. He required multiple surgeries, including two or three so far this year, but always seemed happy, Hansen said.
His mother showed no signs of depression or of feeling overwhelmed, she added.
How very, very sad. There could have been help I’m sure if she had sought it.
I know of a lady that has taken care of her CP dtr for over 25 yrs...including tube feedings and cathing her dtr several times a day.....people that have children without disabilities can never imagine the angst and heartbreak let alone the sheer mental, physical and emotional exhaustion.
I’m sure she sought help and there’s very little help out there...
“Masons father left after his diagnosis and Jordan lived with her mother to make ends meet, said Hansen, the executive director of the Central Oregon Disability Support Network.”

Sorry ass baby daddy is to blame for much of this.
Single parenthood is a bad choice
Why are you so sure of that?
Portland Iregon has some of the largest services available for those in such a situation. Plus Seattle is just across the river
If she was that overwhelmed she could have placed him in a board and care home
Having children out of wed lick is not a good thing no matter what
She lived in Bend
Bend isn’t the sticks
Why are you minimizing the horror of this tragedy?
Just correcting an error in your post.
My heart breaks that she was so deeply overwhelmed as to take them both out of life. She deserves the book thrown at her, but we should all look at the plight of family caregivers who care for the very disabled. I feel Im losing my mind often enough and I feel for her. She chose wrong and deserves punishment. She should have cried out. It is damn hard caring for very ill or damaged people.
This is my life plus caring for my kids and it is very tough. I feel not up to the task. I was never a nursey type. And yet, Gd has chosen this for me for now.
Don’t try and be Superman/woman. I don’t mean to sound trite but even care givers sometimes need care. And a break once and a while.
What a sad story. Hope compassion prevails here. What a cross to have to bear alone.
One is never alone as long as one has Jesus Christ.
Assisted suicide s legal in Oregon; so what’s the problem? /sarcasm
