I too hope it’s not a viable possibility, but the pessimist in me says it’s more likely than your 1 through 3. As for the idea that Burke or someone like him will stand up and oppose heresy, I’m afraid that they won’t. They’ll do what they’ve been doing—write articles, rant on EWTN, hold conferences... and none of it will amount to anything as Team Bergoglio brazenly uses its wrecking ball on the Church. As to your doubts about his longevity, I disagree. As Bergoglio reportedly said to McCarrick, the bad ones never die. Look at Ruth B.G.

Pope Francis you are a disgrace to Catholics everywhere. Resign.

That will solve nothing. The homosexual/pedophile mafia that ousted Bennie and installed Frankie is much stronger now. Do you really think they would install a reformer that would be a threat to their Club Ped playground? You'd get a Frankie on steroids, with the church openly embracing homosexuals and their lifestyle soon afterward. The precedent is already there. Look no further than the Episcopalians and the Anglicans. It's coming to the catholic church too. It's just a matter of time, and not much time at that.
