A 99-year-old man from Rochester, New York, may restore your faith that true, lasting love does exist. His name is Luther Younger, and after 55 years of marriage, he is still deeply devoted to his wife, Waverlee, whom he calls the sweetest cup of tea he ever had.
Luther walks six miles round-trip every day in the heat, rain and snow to visit Waverlee in the hospital. He has become a local celebrity in Rochester and many people recognize him from his daily pilgrimage.

Waverlee Younger was diagnosed with a brain tumor nearly nine years ago and doctors thought she'd have just five years to live, the couple's daughter, Lutheta, told me. Lutheta says both of her parents have remained extremely strong. Over the past nine years, Waverlee has been in and out of the hospital, sometimes for months at a time. Luther stayed by her side, walking to the hospital to visit every day and often sleeping there, sometimes on the floor.
With Waverlee in the hospital with pneumonia for the past three weeks, Luther has again made it a part of his daily routine to walk to her. He told me he could wait for Lutheta to give him a ride, or take the bus, but he doesn't want to.
"I got a wife. I don't want to wait on the bus. I want to go up there to see my wife," he said during our walk.

Hes also a Marine.
And he didn’t use Uber like the media’s current socialist (but big time hypocrite) darling.
See that, even a 99 year old man can outwalk Hillary
Semper Fi. Devoted to the end.
At his age, you know he saw some action in the Pacific.
In our day, THIS is a man after God’s own Heart.
I never get tired of stories like this.
It’s inspiring that this gentleman want to walk, but it would still be true love if he accepted a ride from his children, grandchildren, or fellow church members.
“Lutheta also started a GoFundMe campaign for her parents, to help raise money for Waverlee’s hospital expenses”
John McCain didn’t have that problem.
This guy is more of an inspiration in 6 years than Mc was in his entire political career.
True, but on the other hand, he’s taking the risk of being hit by a truck.
My point is that it’s the visit that shows true love, rather than how he chooses to reach the hospital.
“I got a wife. I don’t want to wait on the bus. I want to go up there to see my wife,”
I was just pointing out something that does show true love that many people do not think about and that is taking care of your health.
It is on my mind because my former pastor has type 1 diabetes and has always put in the work to stay healthy because his wife is in a wheelchair.
Love shows it's self in many ways.
He’s not going to get hit by a truck.
This wouldn’t be remarkable if he were just getting ride. What is admirable and unusual is his daily exertion —walking 6 miles as a 99 year old — for his lady.
God bless testosterone, even in its waning effects.
Excellent point.
Great story. Do we all believe he’s 99?
Count the years from the date he was inducted into the Marines ...
Nice story. Worth remembering and reflecting upon for our own lives. Thanks for posting.
“Hes not going to get hit by a truck.”
Have you experienced a Rochester blizzard? Dreadful and horrible. And extremely dangerous.
