I have a friend that lives her life in exactly this way.

She has congenitally high cholesterol. Parent and grandparents died young from heart attacks.

She eats no red meat. Survives basically on salad. Occasionally has a small glass of wine.

She wants to see her grandchildren grow up. She lives her life with that goal in mind. She is in her fifties and as thin as a rail.

I have high cholesterol of the LDL type for 32 years, that I know of. In my mid-50’s I used to get chest pains after eating out and enjoying a good steak. Because of many reasons I retired at age 57, and moved to a smaller city in Washington state and joined a private golf club. Golf was so enjoyable to me, I played 18 holes 4 times every week.

My chest pains disappeared, my hip joint pain disappeared, and my blood pressure dropped to acceptable levels! I was walking 25 miles every week, pushing my golf cart over a slightly hilly course. I did the golf thing for almost 20 years.

Now I am 78 candles, and living in sunny Florida. Now I do beach walks and visit Gym in my condo complex every other day. Knock on wood, no pains anywhere. And omit nothing in my diet, but everything in moderation.

What I have learned is regular EXERCISE is the most important factor to remain pain free and healthy. My body handles red meat much better now than when I was age 55.
