I am part Cherokee also...those Cherokee girls must have been really something.;-)

As an aside, marrying an indigenous native was usually acceptable--even admired--for members of an invading force.

The real Pocahontas is a prime example.

Dad always joked his Idaho bride (1947) was part Blackfoot. I’ve found no family history to support that, but I’m always wondering about that family inside joke. They are all gone now, so I’m probably going to wonder til eternity.
