NFL TV Networks: Possible Lower CPMs In Early Season Games (advertisers fear Trump tweets)
Media Post ^ | Sept 4, 2018 | Wayne Friedman

The ongoing national anthem controversy -- and NFL players potential continuing protests -- might influence TV networks ad pricing in the early part of the season. Jeff Greenfield, COO C3 Metrics, a media measurement company, said in an email: "NFL CPMs [cost per thousand viewer prices] will likely drop in the first quarter of "Sunday Night Football" and "Monday Night Football" because large advertisers want to avoid controversy on those high-profile nights at all costs as [President] Trump will likely beat his twitter drum.”

He added: “[This] will free up the inventory surrounding the national anthem, causing CPMs to drop in that limited window. It's yet to be seen what happens to NFL ratings this year before we see major ad dollar shifts to college football."

Last season, President Trump voiced anger toward NFL players who knelt during the national anthem. He said those players should be fired.

Against sinking national TV viewership of around 10% last season, the NFL still posted a 10% gain in advertising revenues versus 2016.

Those advertisers do not need to worry about me. I will NEVER tune in to watch another FNFL game again.

I promise.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching my Alabama football team Saturday. The Bears are, I mean were my team. Don’t recall any of them taking a knee, but just the same, I’m not watching them

Wow, talk about spin . . . and bad spin at that! They are dropping their ad rates, not because of fewer viewers, because they fear the President’s tweets!

Nike is adding fuel to the fire of the #walkaway movement. May become the #runaway movement at the rate the Democrats are behaving currently (especially since November 8, 2016).

The two quarterbacks are different as night and day. Tay is fast, full of energy, and throws like lightening.

Don’t know how he’d be in the NFL, but man, he brings a whole different level to the team. Amazing to watch.

I grew up less than 15 minutes distance (riding my bicycle) from Texas Stadium! I have met Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, Mel Renfro, Ed “Too Tall” Jones and many other greats!

I will not turn on an NFL game, until the league grows some balls and tells their players to act like decent human beings during the national anthem - PERIOD! And even AFTER they tell them this, I am not sure how long it will take me to come back - if ever!

After the MLB players strike in 1994, I did not watch them on TV for nearly five years and didn’t visit a game until 2000!

My wife and I have visited the movie theater TWICE in the last two years (and that was twice too many - for me)!

These overpaid actors and athletes need to understand that most Americans do not need them! But they all NEED US!

Don’t worry advertisers, I stopped watching in ‘15 when Stedman Bailey and various other Rams came out of the smoke with “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” and the scumbag owners and NFL did NOTHING!!!

The networks are losing revenue, it's not up for debate anymore. They are reducing ad rates during a quarter of the broadcast because of protests.

The networks will take that out of the hide of the NFL. They have clawback clauses that say if they don't get certain viewership guaranteed by the NFL, the nets get money back. Soon the bill for the ongoing losses will be coming due.

“Those advertisers do not need to worry about me. I will NEVER tune in to watch another FNFL game again.

Same here in my household. We have found all kinds of things to do on a Sunday after church. Frees up time for more important matters than watching a bunch of overpaid SJWs denigrating our Flag and National Anthem.

If the NFL players want to protest, they should do it in a way that doesn’t offend and demean our country and armed forces - the latter includes the police officers that keep them safe and maintain order in the stadiums. Oh, wait, they want to demean our country and armed forces. Never mind.

Phhht to the NFL.

Last NFL I watched was way back when Tom Landry was coaching “America’s Team” the Dallas Cowboys.

Haven’t watched TV at all (don’t even own one) since 2008. 10 year anniversary anniversary coming this Sat, 9/8.

NFL, NBA and Nike ... All bad news for investors.

Jan, Feb - they may get some revenue, but until then, good by.
