So you’re saying that Hamilton, Madison, Adams and Jefferson, in writing our Constitution, cited Vattel’s composition about international treaties with that phrase? I very much disagree.
....................................................
You are in error. The letters, notes, records of the leaders of the country who composed the Constitution are explicit in their high regard of Vattel’s Law of Nations. Note that in the Constitution as I have cited, the Law of Nations is capitalized! Third grade English class should have taught you the meaning of Capitalization.
Furthermore Vattel’s three volume Law of Nations was NOT a work of “literature.” Vattel was the recognized international law expert at the time. To denigrate his monumental work in such a dismissive manner speaks poorly of your education.
ALL of the Framers from George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Hamilton, Mason on down studied Vattel’s work in both English and in the French in which it was originally written. Proof of this statement abounds. You have only to educate yourself. English Common Law was NOT the major factor in our legal structure by a long shot. English Law is based on servitude as the English citizen was a SUBJECT of the King who could change the laws on a whim. The entire American system of a Democratic REPUBLIC is based on the PEOPLE governing through those they choose to represent them. WE THE PEOPLE...........means what it says. America is NOT an offshoot of the Brits. We are UNIQUE!
