good point about the union. they have certainly contributed to their own demise and the destruction American know-how and entrepreneurship and it’s replacement with crony capitalism. as i’ve said many times here, big unions are a leg on the stool of leftism in this nation, and need to be broken up like any monopoly.

however, aren’t there right to work states here that ford could use instead of china? and isn’t a plant closure enough of a stick to get the attention of even the uaw? did current Ford mgmt bother to talk with the union and even the workers separately about it?

No. All Ford plants stateside have to be UAW. And US suppliers are under relentless pressure to let the UAW in. The problem is that once in, they’re like cancer, departing only when the host dies. That’s why Detroit tries to minimize US-sourced parts. Foreign makes doing US assembly have made clear to their workers that letting the UAW in means an end to US production. That’s why UAW drives there have repeatedly failed.
