Obesity map reveals more than 35 percent of people in seven US states are dangerously overweigh

Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and West Virginia all have adult obesity rates of at least 35 percent

Prevalence ranged from 22.6 percent in Colorado to 38.1 percent in West Virginia

Middle-age adults between ages 45 and 54 are twice as likely to be obese as young adults between ages 18 and 24

Data came from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, which is a survey conducted via telephone by the CDC and state health departments.

In addition to having the highest obesity prevalence, West Virginia also led the nation in the percentage of adults with diabetes at 15.2.

West Virginia had the nation's highest drug-overdose death rate in 2015 and was named in a Wallethub study as the least happy state in America.

The CDC report revealed the obesity rates increased as level of education decreased.

Adults without a high school degree had an obesity rate of 35.6 percent in comparison to 32.9 percent of adults with a high school degree, 31.9 percent of adults with some college and 22.7 percent of college graduates.

“Perhaps people are overweight, but I don’t grant any credibility to most of these weight charts. A guy with a big build might be classed as “obese” when he’s not.

Those stupid charts always indicate I’m too short!

Looks like a safe distribution. The more centralized concentration of weight and the weight of the Rockies in the west is what is probably keeping the east coast from tipping into the sea.

Simple solution. Stop eating so much. Or eat oneself to death. Individual choice in a truly free society.

I can see instituting positive Pae for the schools.

But like I said to another guy here “Simple solution. Stop eating so much. Or eat oneself to death. Individual choice in a truly free society.”

Perhaps people are overweight?

Most of us are overweight. It's a function of our society where virtually no significant physical activity is required for most occupations and many of us spend hours watching television or playing on the computer.

All this with immense amounts of food available, even to the so-called poor.

I commute to NYC by rail and I received a flyer at my train station talking about taking a shuttle to my car directly from the train. I only park about 1/4 of a mile from the station but they are advertising this shuttle service so that I don't even have to do that!

You are fooling yourself to think otherwise. And nobody is classifying guys with "big builds" as obese.

"By these assholes criteria Jim Brown in his prime would be overweight."

By the criteria the faggots who run the US fashion and advertising industries, Marylin Monroe and Raquel Welsh were both "plus" size so what can you expect from terminally trendy dolts who work for the gubbmint.

True. It is sad to go to any grocery store and see huge people loading their carts with pies, cakes, plus all kinds of high calorie food. Kids do not play outside like most of us did.

> Schools ought to be required to institute sports and physical activity programs based on military fitness guidelines.

This is an interesting idea. It occurred to me a while ago that school physical education would probably be more helpful if students were streamed based on ability like they are in math class and others. Really unfit students would be better off being assigned to something more like remedial training to build up their fitness and athletic skills, instead of being shoved into the regular gym class with kids way out of their league where they can’t really participate and end up fearing and hating physical activity.

There are lots of overweight people who do no physical activity, but several doctors have stated that BMI is junk science in my presence.

It’s like running around labelling everyone a racist: pretty soon the accusation becomes a joke no one takes seriously. Likewise the fat people see skinny people being labeled “fat” and it gives them an excuse not to see the truth about themselves.

I once had some health consultant tell me I needed to lose 80 lbs based on BMI. That would have brought me down to about 110 lbs. I was overweight, but such a rediculous prescription didn’t encourage me in the slightest to do anything about it.
