It wouldn't bother me at all if they didn't put anyone in danger to rescue those who stayed because they didn't think it would be that bad.

When you see a friend in that spot, perspective changes. Could she have gotten up here (NE OH) before the storm? She doesn't have the physical capabilities to drive more than a few miles. Her son couldn't leave work, as he was necessary at the grocery store, helping to get food to people who needed it. A hotel? They fill up quickly. Public transportation? Booked solid. What about the infirmed, beloved dog? The worst tragedy last year was those people who died in an inadequately attended for nursing home.
Take a walk in their shoes.
You can’t force it on them, and they won’t believe until it is too late.
And until then, they treat us as though we are crazy.
They are welded into the prison cells of their own minds.

I don’t want to argue about whether you personally are right or wrong, but to simply point out this one amusing fact.
If, I say IF, please remember I am using the word IF. If there is no “heaven or hell” or God to punish us all, hence our consciousness ends when our brain dies, then the following is true.
All the “believers” will never know that this to be true.
Nor will all the people who are not believers will be able to come back to this life and state that their position is right. That we only get this one life, etc.
Maybe, just maybe this is why the debate and lack of evidence for a God continues.
You can’t force it on them, and they won’t believe until it is too late.
And until then, they treat us as though we are crazy.

I built a house in Wilmington, NC last year and evacuated last Monday with the clothes on my back, my cat and some wine.
My home is about a mile from the Cape Fear River and I worry after my home surviving the winds and rain that we will be flooded. The area has poisonous snakes and alligators so will also need to BOLO for them as well.
Life is going to be quite difficult and I don’t know when I will be able to go back and get my home to a livable state if it does flood. We are not going to have power for the next week or so and I-40 is impassable and closed right now so I have no way to get there if utilities were restored. Our infrastructure and historical town have been destroyed and will have to be rebuilt from the ground up.
The floods from the rivers has me shaking. Now is not the time to point fingers and sneer at those who want to hold on to the only things they have in this world. What is done is done.
Lets just work together and get to a better place.
Been through a few hurricanes on the MS Gulf Coast and, after Katrina, always plan for a "worse than the worst case" eventuality these days.
The worst thing is that these people district critical emergency resources from those who are truly experiencing an emergency, one that could not have been easily avoided.

Hunkering down and riding out a hurricane can work - if you are prepared. Part of that prep is knowing if you live in a flood plain or storm surge area.
It doesn’t matter because it’s Trump’s fault.
You would think there would be some video of 10 foot floods...

Billed for the cost of their rescue.
The globull warming Weather Channel is now naming winter storms. I can’t keep it straight any more.
I hope the good people of that town who jad to wait longer for rescue are aware of this. Add a rail, tar, and feathers to their relief supply list.
