Actually the Camel Corps was a great success. They went without water, ate scrub, hauled heavy loads and scared off the Indians.
It was considered a failure only because it was the brainchild of then Secretary of War, JEFFERSON DAVIS, soon to be President of the CSA.

Now, we can’t have that, can we!

The Missouri Confederate troops at the Battles of Corinth, Iuka, and Vicksburg had a camel for a pack animal. It was killed and used for food at the Seige of Vicksburg. Old Douglas was his name.
