I’m 52, eat a Paelo diet, I do Brazilain Jui Jitsu, bike 30 miles a week, run a 5k here or there and I can guarantee my health metrics are better than yours across the board. Not to mention probably have you on the ground unconscious in 30 seconds in embarrassing fashion. You may have decent cholesterol, but what kind of cholesterol, what type, what size molecule. Vegan diets in men will raise your risk factors in a number of ways, vegan diets are high in estrogen(soy) enhancing chemicals, which causes a cascade of health issues. Sorry you are entitled to your opinion, not your facts, A vegan diet is against your biology and will kill you. Humans are naturally omnivores. Not a single primitive society, not a one, was vegan. Not any place on earth. Why is that? Keep eating a high carb diet(vegan diets by definition get their nutrition mostly from carbohydrate) with your diabetes, you’ll be a burden someday in the next couple of years. The sores, the organ failure, etc.

“I can guarantee my health metrics are better than yours across the board.”

But not your reading comprehension skills.

“Vegan diets in men...”

From untenured’s post:

“Well, we have dueling anecdotes, I went vegetarian (not vegan) …”

The object of your attention is vegetarian, not vegan as the OP article derides.

Some people can tolerate vegetarianism, some cannot. I believe that it has to do with the person getting the adequate nutrients which are not permitted under veganism and some people lean too heavily to veganism as vegetarians.

Too many variables. Hence I recommend neither as healthful practices. However, due to the variables, there are always exceptions, said example included.

I fall into the "control your insulin, everything else will follow" camp. So I eat very little and when I do, it's Low carb/high fat. Or rather, I did. over the past year I've fallen off the wagon and the carb addiction has it's chains on me again. Before that happened I had lost over 80 pounds in a bit less than a year and every single blood metric was optimal. I am trying hard to get back to it after getting re-addicted to carbs over the past few months. They are insidious.

But I don't reflectively think vegan = bad. It's not for me. Low Carb + intermittent fasting isn't right for others but it is for me. Likewise paleo is great for others. The best plan is one that works for you and that you can stick with as a lifestyle and not just some diet for a month or two.

Just my uneducated take.
