I suspect what has happened is many of these colleges have created SJW programs that no serious student would take as an elective. In order to sustain those programs, they FORCE students to comply and pay for the programs.

“...I suspect what has happened is many of these colleges have created SJW programs that no serious student would take as an elective. In order to sustain those programs, they FORCE students to comply and pay for the programs....”

Exactly. But it’s costing the students precious time/money that should be devoted to electives in their major, especially engineering students that need those electives in preparation for engineering certificates and exams. It really does suck.
I’m glad I went thru when I did.

Yes—my oldest went to college in England. Three year program, BS in economics and every class was Econ. No electives which was too bad but at least no PC forced requirements either.

He also got to travel a little around Europe, had a great time, and it was less expensive than the university of California—even for CA residents (because the dollar was strong while the pound was weak, the standard of living in northwest England was way lower than CA, and the entire program took 3 years instead of 4-5).

>Another reason I recommend students start considering studying abroad.<

That’s a good common sense recommendation. However, there’s a fly in the ointment.

Our primary and secondary public school systems aren’t capable of preparing college and university level educations for those wanting higher education.

From what I’ve come to understand about schools abroad I would certainly encourage all people able to meet foreign standards to go there to study.

Not long ago, Dennis Prager did a college education cost analysis.

For the costs you cite, students could pay for an 18th century style education in which they hire Phd tutors.

Incredible.

Agree. A young guy nearby tending bar in the evenings is close to finishing a bunch of welding qualifications.

Hard work, big $ in return.

How about a course highlighting the use of colleges and universities as Leftist Indoctrination centers?

Mercifully, Tulane was a different school when I was there in the 1970s. “Racial inclusion” was and is a fact of life in New Orleans, while Southern literature and history courses that I took at Tulane dealt with race in an organic and unsensational fashion. I assume that the new course requirement will instead provide a platform for racial propaganda and agitation.

I hope he succeeds. Some twenty years ago ago when I was working for one of the Hovnainian home builders a young black kid started working with us. He was all mouth and no brains. Mr. ‘H’ as we called him him had a side business installing cable tv and took on “Kevin’’ to work for him. After about a year Kevin knew the job pretty well. One day I told him “Kevin, get yourself a van and you can start doing this yourself’’. I said to him, “If you get good at it and hustle and work hard, you can maybe hire another guy to help you’’. Well, I left “Mr H’’ after a while but a few years ago I heard through an old co-worker Kevin ended up with four vans and eight guys working for him and did pretty good for himself.
