I had forgotten this entire episode. Dallas now has/had a formerly closed hospital set up as a Bio IV(?) contamination ward in case we ever get another case here. The infected Dallas nurse was abandoned by her employer.

(Nov 11 2014) Maine nurse Kaci Hickox is now free to do as she pleases, after returning from Sierra Leone, West Africa, where she was treating Ebola patients. In a case that many across the nation have been watching closely, District Court Judge Charles C. LaVerdiere rejected imposing tight restrictions on Hickox, including the 21-day quarantine the state of Maine was demanding. Hickox views this as a victory, asserting she was never contagious and that an immediate quarantine would discourage healthcare workers from traveling to Ebola-stricken countries (an opinion shared by the president). But decision-makers in the state and beyond contend sanctioned quarantines for those who have been in contact with Ebola are necessary for public health. Some now wonder whether Ebola has become a political tool – a gross overreaction sensationalized by the media and election contenders as the hot issue of the moment...

Although the United States has stumbled several times and decontamination procedure failures have resulted in infections of altruistic healthcare workers, no one has died and all the workers have recovered. The only Ebola-related death that has occurred in the U.S. thus far was that of a Liberian national brought into the country for treatment. Despite CDC and other healthcare industry and government failings, it appears there won’t be other deaths in the U.S. resulting from domestically transmitted Ebola infections. It appears those whose jobs are to control the Ebola outbreak have learned their lessons. In fact, more people have died on U.S. soil as a result of the recent Enterovirus D68 outbreak (a possible total of 11, so far, according to the Centers for Disease Control) than from Ebola....

Opponents of Ebola quarantines say such cautions are unnecessary once it is confirmed that an individual, such as Ms. Hickox, is virus- and symptom-free. Those opposed include President Obama, public health experts and the United Nations.

A couple of points missed in the article above. Two nurses (Pham and Vinson) contracted Ebola, and at least one NYC doctor.

(2016) A nurse who contracted Ebola two years ago while caring for the first person to be diagnosed in the U.S. with the deadly disease settled a lawsuit Monday against the parent company of the Dallas hospital where she worked.

Attorneys for Nina Pham announced the settlement with Texas Health Resources. They and the company said in a joint statement that terms will not be disclosed.

Pham contracted Ebola in the fall of 2014 while caring for Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Duncan, who contracted Ebola in his native Liberia and became ill during a trip to the U.S., died. Pham, at the time an intensive care unit nurse, and another Dallas nurse who contracted Ebola survived.

Wiki lists 20 Ebola patients treated outside of West Africa before 2015.

Ebola survivors carry dormant copies of the virus in their inter-ocular and spinal fluids, probably for the rest of their lives. They are carriers. The most likely reservoir of the disease is not fruit bats; it is human beings.

There are numerous and well-documented cases of recovered Ebola patients who infected their sex partners up to 1 year after they were supposedly symptom and virus-free.

If the Chinese colonists in Africa have some misadventure with Ebola, the Chinese Government will enforce lethal quarantine measures in a heartbeat.
