It is beginning to be obvious that Ford has asked for immunity from prosecution (for perjury) as it is becoming apparent that she is lying. SEVERAL supposed witnesses have no recollection of the party. She has to have asked for immunity from prosecution for what she is trying to do.
As is giving the FBI the authority to criminally investigate every teen-aged petting session that has ever happened in America*. No detail of any American's life is too petty for the Deep State to hold a witch trial and investigation.

If it were that easy to taint a judicial nominee for future cases simply by making accusations in a certain area of law, political hacks would make dozens of accusations against one nominee that involve all conceivable areas of law that may come under future consideration by the court.
When appointed, Kavanaugh should NEVER recuse him self. He should rule on every case before him, following the Constitution. One doesn’t give up rights as a citizen by becoming a Supreme Court justice. What if a drunk driver crashed into a Supreme Court justice’s car and crippled him or her? The justice would certainly be able to sue for damages. A defamation suit would be no different. If the case ever made it to the Supreme Court, such justice would be recused from the case, of course. I’m sure Supreme Court justices have been parties in private legal matters before, but haven’t taken the time to research specifics.
I’m not saying he should recuse...just that the libs will pitch a fit every time a case like that comes up.

Not really. The best law firms hire former federal prosecutors as their criminal defense lawyers. It's actually really hard to have credibility in criminal defense at those levels without having worked as a prosecutor because of both street cred and because former prosecutors have an automatic leg up over non-prosecutors in dealing with the current prosecutors. So if someone is footing your legal bills, your criminal defense lawyer will likely be a former prosecutor of some stripe. I don't really see anything odd about this that we could read into.
Political theatre. Give both immunity from prosecution for “crimes” committed, such as underage drinking, etc.? Not meaningful after 36 years. But NOT for perjury!!!
No, but it will be difficult. He's a public person, so the standards are higher than for non-public persons. But this case pretty clearly crosses the line. A better claim will be intentional infliction of emotional distress -- she did this to cause him and his family as much pain as she possibly could.

And somewhere I thought I read that Thursday was the last day to vote to confirm the justice in order to be available for the Oct. session of SCOTUS. Would a vote on Friday be too late?

Yes, but the D’s have again overplayed their hand. If the upcoming election were in a presidential year, this may have worked because the ignorant masses vote at that time, and low information voters come out and vote for the D’s because that is what they are supposed to do.
In off years, only the base in both parties turns out. That is why in most off years the opposite party takes over congress - the party in power is satisfied and sees no need to get out to vote.
Because of public 24 hour a day democrat lunacy this time, they will lose and lose big. Both parties’ base is informed. The hard left d’s will turn out to try to stop Supreme Court nominations. The mushy left are probably satisfied that they have a job and can see what a disgrace the leaders in their party are - no need to turn out. Same with soft left.
On the other hand, most all of the right, hard, mushy, and soft will turn out to stop this ridiculous behavior and keep the country moving forward.
