Please cite a reference for this statement. My understanding was that Grassley offered to secure a statement from Ford in person or by phone (and remember, the term statement has a very specific legal context here). Ford's lawyers refused and presented a list of ludicrous demands.
Kavanaugh has been the one demanding to testify in person, in public, at any time.
Grassley hasn't conceded anything of substance in this charade. This would have been a disaster if Grassley had played hardball and scheduled a vote. These allegations aren't being made the day they're presented in the media. They're hatched weeks in advance, for the specific purpose of releasing them the night before a scheduled vote.
How many Republicans on that committee would cast a vote in favor of Kavanaugh if the most recent allegations had been posted the night before?
Monday, September 17, 2018:
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley issued the following statement:
Anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has deserves to be heard, so I will continue working on a way to hear her out in an appropriate, precedented and respectful manner.
The standard procedure for updates to any nominees background investigation file is to conduct separate follow-up calls with relevant parties. In this case, that would entail phone calls with at least Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford. Consistent with that practice, I asked Senator Feinsteins office yesterday to join me in scheduling these follow-ups. Thus far, they have refused. But as a necessary step in evaluating these claims, Ill continue working to set them up.
Grassley has repeatedly caved in and backed down to increasingly crazy demands from the skank and her indeterminate gender lawyer. He has drawn red lines only to let Katz blithely cross them with impunity.
