Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday signed a bill making California the first state to require public companies to have at least one woman on their board of directors to advance gender equality and help break the corporate glass ceiling.
The bill, SB 826, by Sens. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, and Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, was designed to combat bias against experienced, qualified female employees in the workplace.
Yet another glass ceiling is shattered, and women will finally have a seat at the table in corporate board rooms, Jackson said Sunday on Twitter as she thanked the governor for signing the bill. Corporations will be more profitable. This is a giant step forward for women, our businesses and our economy.
In a rare move, Brown included a message with the bills signing.
There have been numerous objections to this bill and serious legal concerns have been raised, the governor said in a letter to the state Senate, a copy of which he sent to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. I dont minimize the potential flaws that indeed may prove fatal to its ultimate implementation. Nevertheless, recent events in Washington, D.C. and beyond make it crystal clear that many are not getting the message.
Brown went on to say that corporations have been considered persons for a long time even before women were allowed to vote.

Sounds like direct discrimination against men to me.
A good “affirmative action” case that a Supreme Court with Kavanaugh on board can knock down as obviously unconstitutional.
I can't believe this is legal.
Well, it was sponsored by two man-haters.
Forcing companies to hire someone in’t breaking any glass ceilings.
I guess the gay gene also make you stupid.
I’d bring in the hispanic, non English-speaking, night maid, give her cookies, tea, and a magazine, and then get on with business.
If a woman is competent, it is not necessary to force someone to hire her
I’d find the best people I could, and if they all happen to be guys, so be it. Then we’d stand at the table in the boardroom and draw straws to see who gets to self-identify as a chick.
Bwah hah hah hah hah...
More godless puke from the Molden State.
Then we’d hash a plan, if we hadn’t already, to leave a vapor trail getting the heck out of CA.
Unconstitutional. Sexist.
And effing insulting.
They’ll live to regret it, hee-hee.
I would rather never shatter the glass ceiling than be dragged through the shards and propped in the corner.
This makes this country look stupid. How soon before the token female board member claims gang rape?
apparently this will be used to force all corporations to have a homofascist on the board as well, which is what has ushered in the current state of corporate liberalism and “moral” training that HR forces on employees.
There is all-chick leadership some places, will that be challenged to break the glass ceiling too?
So much for the balance of Yin and Yang. California is now evolving to become a genuine Gynocracy. The Gynocrats are in full power ranger PMS mode.
I can hardly wait to see the outcome of the exercise of power by the Gynocrats boards. I am sure they will observe due process and the Constitution in exercising their liberal fascist defamation and castration policies.
Gynocrats of the World UNITE! /S
Naw, Governor Brownnose knows how to thwart a Supreme Court challenge. He’ll shop it to a friendly lower court decision and refuse to go to the SC to defend his state’s law and let the SC kick it back saying that the challenger “has no standing”.
Beautiful!
What is the legal definition of “woman” in CA these days?
Anything you say it ia apparently.
Hoist!
