“Go acquaint yourself with a German Shepherd.”

My 8 month old GS is pretty smart. She is always cocking her head when I do something, so I know that she’s thinking about it and trying to figure out how that can benefit her. Last week, she repeatedly slammed into our fence door until it opened up, and she and our other dog escaped (both were found fairly quickly).

But she still eats her own crap AND gleefully slurps up her own puke. That really has to make you question the intelligence of ANY animal.

WRT cats, I have observed them for many decades (never had one except for a few days, both my father and my wife were/are highly allergic). They are solitary hunters, and in my opinion that makes them very intelligent by necessity. That they don’t pay any attention to us, and yet we still feed and otherwise care for them, is indicative of their superior intelligence. Of course, that doesn’t stop 98% of them from being total assholes.

Does it make the dog sick?

If not, in nature the dog might survive in situations that cat would not.

Puking is for sure, but eating their poop is a sign that something’s wrong, not a lack of intelligence.

Often they eat their poop because something necessary is missing from their diet, with enzyme deficiency being a common cause.

Without necessary enzymes, food can’t be digested, causing indigestion and puking, and vital bodily functions can’t be accomplished fully, often resulting in inflammation and, over time, chronic disease.

Enzymes are vital, especially as we get older, but many enzymes are cooked and processed out of the foods we eat and feed to our animals,
