Dilbert Creator Scott Adams' Teenage Stepson Dies of Fentanyl Overdose

Scott Adams, the creator of satirical comic Dilbert, is mourning the loss of his 18-year-old stepson who died of a Fentanyl overdose.

The 61-year-old cartoonist revealed the heartbreaking news through a video on his Periscope, which was shared Monday.

Fighting back tears, Adams explained he received a call from his ex-wife over the weekend telling him that “the little boy I raised from the age of two was dead.”

Adams then said coroners found a fentanyl patch on his stepson Justin’s arm, and it is believed that he died of an overdose.

Adams also explained Justin was trying to “score Xanax,” a sedative that can treat anxiety and panic disorder, but is also known to cause paranoia, impair memory and judgment and suicidal ideation.

While Adams was visibly shaken up over Justin’s death, he explained his stepson battled addiction for a very long time. It all started when Justin sustained a serious head injury after being involved in an accident at 14-years-old.

Someone had a prescription for it. He might have just bought it.

We see them in the nursing homes frequently. We get called for someone with symptoms of OD and find that they forgot to remove the old patches when they put on new ones.

Then there was one of our frequent flyers who was chewing them.

Friends of mine who died of cancer took it for pain. Other friends, who were addicts, would sometimes visit them while they were dying, and steal the patches.

I'm waiting for the next big thing, it's inevitable.

Carfentanil (Fentanyl x 100) will be the next big thing.

I don't know when but you know it's going to happen.

My son in Seattle mentioned that the Canadians busted 43kg of some extra pure carFentanyl that was toxic in small microgram doses. It was so lethal that it qualified as a chemical weapon. Gotta love those Chinese. Opium War II.

Prayers for the family and for Justin. I hope they get this scourge under control. I’ve seen good people totally destroyed by these drugs.

All of which means the dealer knows how dangerous/Potent they are?
Do they inform the buyer?
I am guessing no.

That’s awful, and heartbreaking.

I work with addicts. People have no idea how awful addiction is. Unless you’ve walked the walk, they should really think hard before saying idiotic things like, “It’s a personal choice!”

Maybe it used to be, but once addicted it is no longer a choice. Been there. Hell on earth.

Some dealers actually spike random packages to OD buyers. In that game, everybody waters down their product to get as much money s possible, so when the junkies hear somebody overdosed on the stuff from the guy on Baker street, they all run over there to get some, thinking he must not be watering his down as much. Of course he is, he just spiked one package with Fentanyl.

Hooked on drugs after an injury. I used to have little sympathy for that, and no understanding of addiction.

Then my pancreas exploded. That’s a LOT more painful than it sounds.

I was on morphine for several days. Not only did it stop the pain, it’s warm, it’s fuzzy, it’s like a mother’s hug, a lover’s caress. I would have gone into shock and died without it. It saved my life, but it’s very dangerous. I ‘get’ how addiction can happen now.

We can only hope Justin is in a better place, one without the pain, one without the cravings, and that his family ultimately finds some comfort.

I’ve talked to Scott, he’s good people.

Theoretically that’s true. Doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Possible if he was being weaned off addiction, but not necessarily. In the past few days I have received two marketing calls using the old cloned number ruse. The spiel launches into how they have help for those with chronic pain. It could be a scam or opioid traffickers trolling for new customers.
