Dilbert Creator Scott Adams' Teenage Stepson Dies of Fentanyl Overdose

Scott Adams, the creator of satirical comic Dilbert, is mourning the loss of his 18-year-old stepson who died of a Fentanyl overdose.

The 61-year-old cartoonist revealed the heartbreaking news through a video on his Periscope, which was shared Monday.

Fighting back tears, Adams explained he received a call from his ex-wife over the weekend telling him that “the little boy I raised from the age of two was dead.”

Adams then said coroners found a fentanyl patch on his stepson Justin’s arm, and it is believed that he died of an overdose.

Adams also explained Justin was trying to “score Xanax,” a sedative that can treat anxiety and panic disorder, but is also known to cause paranoia, impair memory and judgment and suicidal ideation.

While Adams was visibly shaken up over Justin’s death, he explained his stepson battled addiction for a very long time. It all started when Justin sustained a serious head injury after being involved in an accident at 14-years-old.

China didn’t put that patch on him
*********************************
No, but the Chinese did manufacture the poison and then knowingly illegally sell it for purposes of being smuggled. And, IMHO, it was done with the full knowledge of the totalitarian Chinese government.

By the way, aren’t you a sweetheart.

Lee Child describes fentanyl use/abuse in great detail in one of his Jack Reacher novels, The Midnight Line. Good read.

No I understand. I was just marveling at the distribution method for such a dangerous drug and realizing the ramifications.

My wife has a cousin who got addicted to opioids because of a back injury. She fought it for several years and only beat it by using Kratom as a substitute until she was able to totally wean away from it. She is completely pissed that the FDA classified Kratom as an opioid because she credits it for her escape and that path is now cutoff from other addicts.

I lost a cousin to fentanyl a couple years ago. He died on his mother’s birthday in a Panera bathroom. He had been on methadone, missed an appointment and took one last hit. Don’t know how he got hooked but he had a pretty messed up home life as an AI baby in a lesbian household.

Fentanyl is a huge problem for first responders. I’ve read cases where officers have overdosed just by getting the powder on their hands.

I remember when fentanyl made to my area. A small town south of me had over a dozen OD’s in a matter of hours. The police described it as “we were just following the dealer town and picking up bodies.”

“this drug can actually be administered involuntarily on another person in their sleep?”

Probably. It can be aerolised. The Russians used a a Fenantly derivative to break the siege at the Theater in Moscow. Ended up killing 130 civilians as well as 40 terrorists

That link didn’t work, but if the page I found about fentanyl and risks of exposure for law enforcement officers is the same document, it mentioned a couple anecdotal cases without any information regarding the follow-up of what treatment and life-saving procedures were performed — that would be interesting to know. The various articles never go that far. .

People wear fentanyl patches that provide transdermal administration. Every day patients receive fentanyl injected directly into their vasculature without any dire effects.

All that said, yes, definitely exercise caution with unknown substances and don’t inhale it or put it on your skin.

My brother passed away at age 47 from an accidental overdose of painkillers and other drugs he was on. It’s devastating.

RIP, Justin.
O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

I was on morphine for several days. Not only did it stop the pain, it’s warm, it’s fuzzy, it’s like a mother’s hug, a lover’s caress.

Yep. The scary thing is just how good it feels. As soon as I could get through the day without screaming, I dropped to codeine, and then to Tylenol. I am far too afraid of just how wonderful opiates make me feel.

I don’t get it. There is just so much wrong with this picture:

In 2015, 1,600 kilograms (3,500 lb) were used in healthcare globally.[10] As of 2017, fentanyl was the most widely used synthetic opioid in medicine.[11] Fentanyl patches are on the WHO List of Essential Medicines, the most effective and safe medicines needed in a health system.[12] For a 100 microgram vial, the average wholesale cost in the developing world is US$0.66 (2015)[13] while in the USA the price is US$0.49 (2017) for that amount.[14]

So sorry. The medical profession has a lot to answer for, the way they hand out opioid prescriptions like candy without any follow-up by addiction specialists. This is one area where there ought to be a law.
