You don't have to be Chuck Norris just step in to your opponent and him for the groin area or just slightly above but it's best to aim for the lower part of the gut area and yell, scream loud, real loud. This tends to disorient your opponent and it will also give you more of an adrenaline rush and a bit more of an aggressive force and keep kicking , punch if you can but keep yelling. That will often attract someone who might come to you aid or it will bring the cops.

He telegraphed what was coming, badly. I'd have (and you could) stepped (left foot) inside the kick, blocking (high or low, depending) with the left forearm. Using the heel of the right hand (not the palm) and aiming upward and through (rather than at) his chin (pretend you're trying to hit the back of his head from the front) snap a blast at the target.

Focus is the hard part; you don't want to miss. If you do miss or don't make enough contact, follow up immediately with right knee to gonads. If he goes down stomp on any body part readily accessible, then retreat. Call 911.
