I have the same sort of mental Punnet Square for my students and I joke that my grading scale is:

A=Smart and Motivated
B=Not Smart, but Motivated
C=Smart, but not Motivated
D=Not Smart, Not Motivated
F=Never here

A - perfect - Lady’s comment is obviously better than mine .... “motivated” a better word than lazy.

And your final category .... “not here” covers so many today, missing from past generations
