Subject:* Travel pool #5 - Trump begins + crowd comments

Trump took the stage at 1:43 theOrange County Convention Center for remarks at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Convention. Remarks are open press.

Pool spoke to a few people in the crowd before Trump began speaking. Their comments are below:

_Kevin Huddle, age 42, police officer in Santa Barbara CA_

“Why do you support Trump?”

I like that he supports law enforcement and supports the military. And hes fiscally conservative

“How does he support you?”

He supports us financially as well as whenever theres a tragedy hes there for us

“Is there anything hes done that you dont support?”

I dont really follow politics

_Shawn OGrady, 53, police officer in Santa Barbara CA _

“Why do you support Trump?”

He supports us, whenever theres an issue affecting law enforcement hes right out there in front of it giving us praise

“Anything you dont support?”

I dont like that he uses Twitter so much, but I guess thats his shtick, thats how he got elected

_James Roe, post instructor and director of north america sales for Brainchip, San Diego CA_

“Why do you support Trump?”

He gave our military the budget they needed

“Anything you dont like that hes doing related to law enforcement or military?”

Not in that realm, no

“How about outside that realm?”

I live in San Diego so I see whats happening with the sanctuary cities and families being torn apart and I dont exactly approve of that

_Aaron Jimenez, police chief in St. Ann, Missouri_

“Why do you support Trump?”

I like his policies and what hes done for law enforcement. [paraphrasing: Said he could feel Trumps support for law enforcement more than past presidents]

“How does he make you feel that support?”

By his comments, things that hes said. When people start attacking the police I dont think hes attacked the police or said anything negative

Subject:* *Travel Pool Report #6: Leaving for the airport & Rod update*

Pool was led out of the room as the president concluded his remarks at roughly 2:18pm.

He was several minutes behind. Were rolling as of 2:25 pm toward the airport.

His remarks were open press, but its worth noting that he addressed his AF1 conversation with Rosenstein. The audience laughed at his impression of the press.

He also talked about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and how easy he thought it would be to confirm the judge. The audience applauded loudly at his statements.

Finally, Hogan Gidley sends along the following read-out on the presidents conversation on AF1 with the deputy attorney general:

The President and Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, met for about 45 minutes aboard Air Force One. They discussed various topics including the International Chiefs of Police event later today, support for our great law enforcement officials, border security, how to better address violent crime in Chicago, and general DOJ business. Chief of Staff, General John Kelly and acting Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General, Ed OCallaghan, were also in the meeting.

Kavanaugh hires all women clerks, a first at the Supreme Court, 2 WH officials confirm. After being sworn in Saturday, the justice worked in his new chambers at SCOTUS on Sunday, formerly Ailto’s. He met with all four of his new clerks Sunday.

RR seems to still be of use to POTUS.

Mark Meadows last Wednesday said that he is hopeful Rosenstein will testify before the House Judiciary Committee soon.

Flake phoned RR about request for new FBI Kavanaugh investigation.

POTUS: New FBI investigation could be a “blessing in disguise.”

Pelosi said Sunday she will request that the government make public the FBI’s supplemental background report.

POTUS, RR and Kelly meet on AF1. What was discussed? DECLAS and/or FBI’s supplemental report?

Thank you for always posting these pool reports. Something I wouldn’t see or know if you didn’t. I don’t usually keep news on all day.

I loved that show. The episode about Columbus day, with the native Americans protesting, was great, even though I’m native American I’m not a snowflake. It actually showed the ridiculousness of both sides.

IN HIS FIRST DAY ON THE JOB, KAVANAUGH HIRED AS MANY BLACK LAW CLERKS AS RBG HAS IN HER ENTIRE TENURE
11:18 AM 10/08/2018
Kevin Daley | Supreme Court Reporter

Justice Brett Kavanaugh has hired a black law clerk for his new chambers at the U.S. Supreme Court, matching Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s record of African-American clerkship hiring during her tenure on the nation’s highest judicial tribunal.

With his first clerkship hires, Kavanaugh also set a gender composition record, an apparent attempt to buck the high court’s hiring patterns, which tend to favor white, male graduates of elite law schools.

Since joining the high court in 1993, Ginsburg has hired over 100 law clerks, just one of whom is black.

https://dailycaller.com/2018/10/08/brett-kavanaugh-black-women-law-clerks-ginsburg/

Kavanaugh’s new clerks are Shannon Grammel, Megan Lacy, Sara Nommensen and Kim Jackson. These hires set a record in a second respect: Kavanaugh is the first Supreme Court justice to hire an all female class of clerks

....I don’t know if these are the current four, but I found this on a search
