Merciful Maude, LostPassword. You may have given the most applicable reason for everyone’s approval of toddlers in First Class. I would rather a Screamming Meemie set next to or in front, or even in back of me other than sit anywhere near Maxine Waters. (Eeeeek)

One crying child turns coach into what for everyone? Put him out on the wing? Make airlines put in a cry room like they have at church. Don’t let anyone under 12 fly?

My sentiments exactly. This article is odd. One, flying on an airplane isn't the same as, say, going to a restaurant. Sometimes, a family MUST fly on an airplane, for example, when it's moving across the country. Therefore, the “if-your-kids-won't-behave-don't-bring-them” argument doesn't make sense when it comes to airplanes.
Two, many responses mix “crying” and “running up and down the aisles”. It's true that every responsible parent can stop his/her child from running around an airplane; crying, on the other hand, is a different matter. Babies cry...often. And toddler and young children cry, too, and they sometimes cry on planes because the pressure hurts their ears.
So, the first question should be whether children under, say, age five should be allowed on airplanes at all. If you take the responses to this article seriously, the answer is, “No.” Yet, how was I supposed to bring the three-year-old I had adopted on the West Coast back from the East Coast?
Third, your issue: why is it ok for babies and young children to sit in Coach, but not First/Business Class? I'd posit that it's up the the airlines. No parent should allow his/her child to run up the aisles in any part of the plane; no parents can stop a baby or child in pain from crying in any part of the plane. So, if an airline wants to ensure that First/Business Class means insulation from babies and toddlers running and crying, that airline should have the guts to make it a RULE that babies and toddlers can't fly in FIRST or Business Class. Unless an airline does that, it's the same deal for the rich folks as it is for the hoi polloi: “You pays your money and you takes your chance.”
Oh, God. Don’t get me started on the “Companion Animals”.
I got kicked off the last flight for trying to bring on my “Companion Rattlesnake” in a burlap bag. Almost made it, too, if not for the rattle...those TSA types are sharp!
A few months ago, I was on a flight with a little girl, maybe 2 1/2 or so a couple rows back. Just as the plane pulled back from the gate, she said Mommy, I need to go potty.”
Everyone around kind of snickered. The flight attendant heard and came over to tell the mom that he told the Captain to hold for a couple minutes while the little girl made her way to the head.
It was pretty funny and a good job on the flight attendants part.
Sure, as long as they fit into an overhead bin.

Oh Barf. Thanks for reminding me. I see these morons in grocery stores and restaurants with their dogs, and I just hold my tongue.
These snowflakes do a major disservice to people with real disabilities.
Children go on planes. If you’re in coach (less expensive) you may not want children to disrupt, but you can expect that it may happen and you have to put up with it. If you pay for first class, you wouldn’t expect to put up with screaming children. I know I wouldn’t.
My 16 year old son is a Delta Diamond Million Miler.
ALL of his international flights since birth have been First Class.
His first flights were at two months - between Stockholm and Naples, Florida.
He’s probably flown more than most of the people posting on this thread.
We have NEVER EVER had a problem with him crying or misbehaving on a flight.
The worst were the people who would say snotty things to us before the flight would even depart about “making sure we keep him quiet.”

And before you claim that I should have left a toddler home, with whom should I have done that?

True as that may be, I’ve also not chosen to tangle with TSA over an adult, either. The day I tangle with an adult it’s going to be over something serious enough to warrant me having to be dragged off a plane. I haven’t flown in years because once TSA got involved with flying I lost all respect for that industry. I know it’s not their fault. I also know the industry doesn’t hire good caliber folks...for TSA at any rate.
Now, a toddler CAN be bribed with candy, soda, a walk down the aisle, listening to music and if need be rocked to sleep. And don’t forget the toy I’ve got packed in my purse for such purposes as to be given away! I might have a hard time doing that with some adults. LOL

Absolutely correct! Parents are responsible for controlling their children.
Have you seen a companion miniature horse on board? Don’t know how to post a pic but it exists.
In MA companion animals are NOT allowed in restaurants or stores———probably restricted in other states also————Guide Dogs are allowed,of course.
Most merchants think that they are the same thing.
A companion animal in MA can accompany a person on all types of transportation and can live in animal restricted apartments——but not allowed in any stores,restaurants or other retail establishments.
