Nicole Talbot isnt quite old enough to vote next month, but she isnt shy about urging Massachusetts residents who are to keep a state law that protects transgender people from discrimination, including the right to use restrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity.
It makes her feel safe, Talbot said, which wasnt always the case for the teenager, an accomplished singer with dreams of a Broadway career. For as long as she can remember, she felt she was a girl like the time she insisted upon being a princess at a preschool Halloween party even when the world beyond her mother subjected her to taunts and discrimination.
Now 17, Talbot, who began her transition in the seventh grade, is lending her name and story to the campaign against a ballot question that would repeal the 2016 law.
It allows me to live as who I am and have every right that every other person in the state has, said Talbot.
Setting the stage for the first-ever statewide referendum in the U.S. on a transgender rights law, opponents collected enough signatures to place a repeal question on the Nov. 6 ballot. Transgender rights supporters worry and opponents of the laws hope that if the repeal passes in Massachusetts, the first state to legalize gay marriage and among the most LGBT-friendly, it could unleash a cascade of similar efforts elsewhere.

Once upon a time, marriage was “one man, one woman” but then the activists decided it was much broader than that. I expect to see polygamy in my lifetime.
Once upon a time, gender was “XX or XY” but then the activists decided it was much broader than that. We’ve got 57 genders now.
This stuff won’t stop until voters demand that it stops. Unfortunately, MA voters are not likely to do the right thing.
“She’ll” be dead by 20 ,, at her own hand.
Transgender is only removed from trans-dragon by degree, the latter suggesting a bit of reconstruction, some prosthesis, a fuel supply and an ignition source. While I will not interfere in the private fantasy of another, I will not be made to promote the behavior.

Don’t be so sure.
“Transgenders” already have more rights than they need under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Since there is no such thing as transgender, there are no transgender rights. Delusions don’t confer rights.
Gee, I wonder which side the AP wants to win.
“Once upon a time, gender was XX or XY but then the activists decided it was much broader than that. Weve got 57 genders now.”
Sorry, I have to humbly disagree with you. “XX or XY” is not a gender. It is a sex. On your birth certificate it says “Sex” not “Gender.”
As far as I am concerned, if the kid wanted to be a princess, that’s fine. If he wants to identify as a woman, that’s cool. Identify all you like. Only 57 genders? I’m surprised there aren’t more.
In the end though, you are either XX or XY and that is the bathroom or locker room you should be using. And if you go in and people comment on your appearance, to freaking bad.
No, it doesn't. It lies in the hands of an autocratic "judge."
I’m identifying as a purple penguin today. Which restroom do I use or can I just use the front door of Target?
Just a question, but don’t all people have the same rights already? I don’t think there is anything in the constitution about where you get to pee.
Until some liberal Mass judge overules the overwhelming majority will of the people like they did with Sodomite “marriage”.
I can’t see the citizens of state which re-elected over and over the criminal likes of Ted Kennedy doing the right thing here.
