U.S. Navy Helicopter Crashes on Flight Deck of U.S.S. Ronald Reagan

he MH-60 Seahawk hit the flight deck of the USS Ronald Reagan shortly after takeoff around 9 a.m., according to a statement released by the Navy’s Seventh Fleet. All injured are in stable condition and are being evaluated by medical staff.

The Navy did not say how many people were injured but that some “will be medically evacuated ashore” without specifying a location.

An investigation has been opened into the cause of the crash, according to the statement.

Having personally witnessed thousands of helicopter launches and recoveries aboard carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and frigates, I'm amazed these accidents don't happen every day.

I remain in awe of Navy helicopter pilots and the nerves and skills they possess. The fighter jocks get all the glory but the helo guys and gals are the real deal.

Funny in a way and true. We had two C-130s go down around Khontum in 1972 and every squadron's missing items on the TO&E were on those planes.
