I've been to South Africa several times...the most recent being two years ago.There is quite a bit of Western affluence to be seen in,and near,its major cities.There is also lots and lots of classic African poverty seen there,including near its major cities.

It's not difficult to imagine that that stark difference could at least partially explain the incredible crime rate there...with whites *and* blacks being the victims.
