I never saw reason to switch from XP.

Neither did I, but having gone through the transition, I think Win7 was a true improvement over XP.

For my money, the transition to Win10 from Win7 only benefited Microsoft.

I run both, Win XP and Win 7 64. My favorite is Win 7, more features. IMO XP is just as stable as Win 7. The problem with XP is it’s lack of support by others such as antivirus and software.
