I once bearhugged and nearly tackled one of my students who tried to run out of class and join a fight. This was 1988 in a Detroit high school. He struggled until I softly said that I would break his arm. Later, my department head gave me a pat on the back.

When I was in HS the De-seg students seemed to drag and beat a teacher once a year. This was late eighties in north StL county. I can’t imagine what it is like now.
