IRS NEVER calls
If you sent an amended return and forgot to provide schedules or forgot to sign the thing, yes, they may call. In this case you will know that you sent the 1040X, or the correspondence, or whatever. If you aren’t sure, tell them to make notes and you will call the 800 line and their rep will tell you what is needed.
