The £12,000 dating agency that broke my heart: It only had 100 men, didn’t find her a [tr]

For a hugely bright private wealth consultant who has racked up goodness knows how many millions of pounds for her well-heeled clients over the years, Tereza Burki knows she’s been pretty daft. ‘When you’re advising a client to invest in something, you exercise due diligence, go to Companies House, make checks, do your research — but in matters of the heart...’ She shakes her head. ‘You want to believe you can have the Cinderella story, the happy ever after, and meet Mr Perfect who ticks all the boxes: financially secure, handsome, sense of humour, intelligent, adventurous and wants children. ‘And someone promises you can have that eternal happiness if you just pay whatever and sign here — you don’t read the small print or exercise the due diligence you would for a client, as you want to believe. I had a gut feeling telling me: “Don’t do it.” Why didn’t I listen?’

“which was a sufficient pool of eligible people looking to date.”

They all rejected her on seeing her picture.

Youth and beauty are commodities that expire quickly, especially among women. Those hot women that wouldn't even look at you when you were young are suddenly much more available, perhaps even interested, twenty years later when the shoe is on the other foot (stable middle aged guy who is in good shape and healthy, with a good job, without a substance abuse problem).

The tables turn on a woman pretty quickly, and there is no turning them back. Most of them don't realize it until it's too late. I suspect this woman is in that camp.

The friend who told her to go to the bar where the men in their 60s hang out had better advice than the expensive dating service with no men in their dating pool did.

I think that is basically right. Any attractive woman in her 20’s is a little bit like a celebrity. Strangers notice her, people approach her maybe too often, she can easily think that is what the world is like, full of infinite opportunities, and no need to commit to any one choice, there’s always another chance. Their environment prevents them realizing that it’s not like that for most people and is really just a fleeting window in time for her, too.

I'm looking for someone a bit slimmer, myself.

You just may have put your finger on the problem...

Time to cue up Garfield and Oates' 29/31 (language).

"...‘You want to believe you can have the Cinderella story....."

Hate to break the news to you honey, but you're no Cinderella.

You want a wealthy, successful husband candidate? Twice divorced with three kids is not good on your resume darlin'. Lose about 40 pounds and 10-15 years and you might be acceptable? Since that is impossible, you might aim a little lower?

To: I want the USA back

The one common denominator in all her failed relationships is her. Of course, taking agency for that is totally outside her sphere of comprehension, like so many “strong, independent” women of this modern era.

It’s not just the physical and supple attraction of younger women

That’s a canard to me anyhow

Older women can have a lot of issues and be quite sour....note I said can.

Men want to be appreciated and loved and for their sexual partner to be nice to them

Younger women can be better at that because they are more likely to be hopeful about love

Amen Babble

The bar at Sperry’s Belle Meade or Franklin would be a good start for her.

Check body language

I do this a lot

Stern eyes with a hint of sadness

Shoulders squared

Hands covering the joy box

Head tilted a bit....a beckon or cocky?

The eyes are the real tell....sadness ....it’s be a lot to deal with

Not a good pose

A forty-something woman with two failed marriages and three kids wanting to remarry and have another child?

Just what every 40-50-something successful man is looking for. /sarcasm.

She’s not bad looking. I agree with Laz, I’d hit it.

Trouble is, her picture is perfectly fine, if I’m looking for a lawyer, a doctor or a financial advisor. Not so much if I’m looking for a wife and/or mother of my children. Also, the blouse she’s wearing is a tad tight around the middle.
