Passenger’s fight with bus driver sparks fatal crash

An irate passenger who missed her bus stop triggered a catastrophe in China when she attacked the driver — who lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into the Yangtze River, killing everyone on board.

Thirteen bodies were found after the Sunday night crash, and two people remained missing, Chongqing police told China Daily Friday morning. Approximately 15 people were on board, cops said.

Bus surveillance video obtained by Chongqing police, as well as other evidence, shows that a 48-year-old female passenger, identified only by her last name, Liu, missed her stop and asked the driver to stop immediately, the outlet reported.

When the 43-year-old driver, also identified by his last name, Ran, refused, Liu hit him over the head with her cellphone. The video shows the pair swinging at each other, with the driver still attempting to steer the bus in between blows.

Suddenly, the bus swerved onto the wrong side of the road before striking another car, breaking through a guardrail and plunging into the river in Wanzhou, Chongqing.

We have all probably allowed ourselves to become distracted behind the wheel at some point in time. I for one have been fortunate that my distractions were brief and did not result in any accidents. It makes me nervous when I even watch movies were the driver takes his eyes off the road to look at their passenger and does so for way too long, because I think the scene is calling for them to have an accident. Because in real life, that is what would have transpired. 8>)

I can relate. I dislike being a passenger with someone else driving and I try avoid it like the plague.

Looks like the families of those who died can sue for compensation from both the driver and the womans families from what I've read.

I've watched still and video and looks to me like she certainly assaulted him and more than once......and the way the bus went to the curb and then over looks like as you say.

My Amish neighbor doesn’t like it either.I asked him if he ever got sleepy when driving his buggy. He said yes but he had an effective countermeasure. He hands the reins to his wife.

He did deliberately turn the wheel a full turn and then proceeded to go straight..... off the bridge.

He DROVE it off the bridge.

Driver lost control?? Bullshit.

That's the funniest thing I've read in the past 2 hours. What a hoot!☺ Ya think he committed suicide because he'd had it with getting slapped?

Too bad for all the passengers on board. What a shame. And that appeared to be long drop off that bridge. I'd guess maybe 70' above the water. If that's the case, it's likely or possibly many died on impact and didn't suffer much.

Check this video for more details of the scene/recovery. Most were likely killed on impact. That bridge is way up, at least 70’ or so from the water..Seen at 1:09 or thereabouts. It has the collision from different angles as well, slow motion etc..

You know you’ve really had it “up to here” with your job when......

I keep telling my kids that not only is being polite the right thing to do, you never know when someone is just going to have enough of this crappy world and snap.

I don't care if I have passengers, as long as I'm driving.☺ I don't allow myself to get distracted. A little distraction can be a quick death sentence. Distractions make up a good percentage of head-on collisions. Lots of times they'll drift over and hit a soft shoulder, they over-correct, lose control and cross over into on coming traffic.
