What Does It Mean to Vote Republican Today?
National Review ^ | November 6, 2018 | Michael Brendan Doherty

Posted on 11/06/2018 7:48:31 AM PST by Jim Noble

The post-Kavanaugh moment of Republican unity, where MAGA-hat wearers and think tankers in loafers both cheered Susan Collins in defense of Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, seems like it was a long time ago. What does it mean to vote Republican today? I don’t think anyone knows...and that’s one of the problems the party faces as it goes to the voters...

Of course, Trump’s party is hemorrhaging voters, congressmen, and potentially governors in the states where Trump scored an upset. Anticipating the potential fallout for the GOP in Congress, McCarthy concludes by blaming Republican House candidates for incomprehension of the political moment: “Few Republicans running this year seem to understand what gave Mr. Trump his edge in 2016 — it was not that he was simply combative and rhetorically right-wing. It was that he had a vision of what it meant to make American great again, by making the Republicans a party for the nation again.”

Trump won while promising to make a “worker’s party” that “took care of everyone.” He won election while demonstrating his freedom from the old party orthodoxies...

And so Republicans have this alarming dynamic where Trump is alienating suburban woman, college graduates, and young people generally, while congressional Republicans and their agenda are repelling the tranches of voters Trump brought into the party. The relationship between the the president and the Senate works for appointing judges. But Trump and the House Republicans could never square their contrary desires on health care with the wants of any group of voters, and so they abandoned the project...

At a zenith of power, this party is having an identity crisis. The congressional GOP and the traditional GOP donor class never wanted working-class whites or their agenda. Refusing to serve the voters you have is a recipe for disaster.

This says perfectly what I've been saying imperfectly for the past two weeks. If we lose tonight, print it out and put it on your refrigerator, read it every day until it sinks in. REFUSING TO SERVE THE VOTERS YOU HAVE IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER.

The thing that is missing in all the noise about a “blue wave” is what happens if the GOP holds?

Due to the high number of die hard Never Trumpers who have resigned, and the relentless campaigning Trump has done for the GOP, the Jan 2019 Congress, if the GOP holds, is going to be a much friendlier place for President Trump.

From my locale, this :

"Of course, Trump’s party is hemorrhaging voters, congressmen, and potentially governors in the states where Trump scored an upset."

is a bold-faced lie. Which, to my reading, sucks any relevance right out of the article. To me, the author sounds like a concern-troll. The more we vote, the less concern there is. So ... make an effort to get folks to the polls ... and enjoy the returns rolling in tonight. God Bless!

In spite of the elite donor and political class the president, along with us, will drag the party across the finish line victorious. Losing is not an option tonight!

So changing your ideas to get liberal suburban woman, college graduates and young people who are young Marxists to vote for you is a winning proposition ? That is what made Trump who he is..the NR is a rag.

If Trump wins this election today the NeverTrumpers are toast. There won’t be any in elective office. The GOP is the party of Trump right now. If the GOP elite can’t get on board they have only themselves to blame. Watch the contortions as they justify their principles and become Democrats.

The unspoken lesson in all this is the Bush Neocons promised for 30 years to do what Trump accomplished in 2 years. When we hear the NeverTrumpers that is the one thing we need to remember. They have been snake oil salesmen the entire time.

The dirty secret is the GOP-e and the Donor aren’t interested in governing. They only want to be “they loyal opposition” so they can fund-raise and soak up the pork spending while blaming Democrats for everything.

Bush League Republicans would rather lose than side with the citizens and the rule of law.

Agreed. The left thinks the huge turnout is a result of the hatred that’s been stoked against Trump by the media.

In reality, it’s ordinary Americans who see that Trump, while acting in the best interest of the US, has been demonized and insulted by the leftist media.

We’re mad. We’re going to be heard.

Excellent points others should remember.

We waited a long time for Trump and I still believe God sent him as a means for good people to continue the American Way of Life to do more good work on this earthly plane.

It is always easy for the George Will and Bill Kristol types to compromise, totally give in, and then sell us out and live the good life at elite cocktail parties with liberals. We came last or not at all.

And a GOP caucus controlled by RINO’s is only marginally better than the Democrats.

Another NR NeverTrumper? Again, it's like finding a four-leafed clover. Gotta shower and go hemorrhage another vote for the party of President Trump. John James for Senate!

Not when you have a President like Trump at the helm. Then you better crawl naked over a quarter miles of broken glass to vote for every possible R.

R control of Congress means Trump sets the agenda. Given all the rabid Never Trumpers who have resigned, plus the relentless campaigning President Trump has done, we have a historic opportunity in Jan 2019 if the GOP holds.

The Dems know this. That why they went out and got as many lairs out pretending to be “GOP lite” candidate in red/purples districts as they could.

Oh believe me I voted straight ticket probably always will from here on out. But I think the article was talking about how the Never Trumpers hurt Trump by mass resigning their seats. We’ll see . . .

This man works for free... He works relentlessly into all hours of the night. ...He is attacked daily by a party of free-loading laggards who have accomplished nothing.... He works with one single goal in mind:... To protect this country and work for the people.....

To vote today is the very least we can do on our part!

Trump steps off AIR FORCE ONE at Andrews AFB, Maryland at 2:20am ET on Election Day, November 6, 2018....The president returned home from a three state swing on the final day of campaigning for the midterm elections.....Give him what he asked for...support the GOP Candidates!
