A woman who found her engagement ring before her boyfriend proposed complained about the 'basic' band on social media - and the internet is not happy.

'Ewwwww. Self shame Friday here I come. Found this in the BF's nightstand. Not a fan,' the woman wrote in a Facebook group.

'Please roast and then tell me how to tactfully say no you need to go get something different,' she added.

“So then, years later, after the divorce (yeah), I had nothing to pawn.”

To be fair, you would not have later been redeeming the loan ticket anyway.

I’ve been married over 40 years. We got engaged in high school and my ring cost $300, which was a lot for an 18 y.o. kid to spend. The marriage has been happy and lasted. The ring is in a drawer. I still have it but it’s too small for my 60 year old finger :-)

If we are being biblical, what do your sister wives think?

The very thought sends shivers up my spine

Polyandry must even be worse though

That looks like an heirloom, maybe from his mother. It may have been her most treasured possession: three beautiful diamonds, which can be easily updated into a more elegant setting. I would have been honored to receive such a ring.

Sell that ring and run. Man have no need to get married anymore for any reason . The institution holds exactly 0 upside or benefits for a man.

The pawn or resale value of jewelry is minimal, anyway. I have a very nice set of Mikimoto pearls that my mother gave me when she wanted an even better one (and my cousin’s ship was going to WestPac), and they’re worth only about $700 as a resale.

rings always start small and after five years of marriage, upgrade.

No, they don't.

I’m hoping the ring was for the guy’s other girlfriend...

My daughter and I found a science activity where you can create your own diamond using a microwave. We haven’t tried it yet, but we probably will over the holidays!

Any man with multiple wife’s MUST be nuts. Any woman with two husbands would be equally crazy.

I was kidding with my original comment. But I agree with your answer.

It never occurred to me to “upgrade,” either. Sometimes I wear my little gold ring with blue topazes on my right hand. It doesn’t fit on my left hand with my wedding ring, which is also the original, what we could afford in 1988.

I just looked at it, and it could stand to be polished up a little. I need to go to a jeweler to get a watch battery replaced anyway.

Sounds like our story. We were moving some furniture for my in-laws when the U-haul trailer became unhitched and put a dent in his car. Since U-haul attached the trailer themselves, there was a settlement- for roughly $300. My ring came as soon as the check cleared. Unfortunately, the diamond fell out one day while I was hiking in the woods, never to be found again.

My hubby later got me one three times the size of the original. I never had the heart to tell him it stuck out too far. At the time, it kept scratching my daughter’s little arm when we would hold hands, and I reluctantly quit wearing it. I still rarely wear it, as I am not a fancy woman, and it doesn’t work with gardening, or scrubbing toilets or making meatloaf. But neither of us care much. We still love each other.

I married a Russian. She had never heard of an “engagement” ring. I couldn’t be happier.

A jeweler can stretch the band to fit. They have a machine for it. Gold is ductile.

I like it....but, as others say, depending upon financial situation I might say “Don’t spend too much”. I didn’t even have an engagement ring. Just wedding band...but, later the hub bought a nice “anniversary ring” that matches the band...when we had more moolah.

I haven’t read a lot of comments over at the source site for the article, but within the first few that I did read I found one I really liked: “Wow...what self-centred entitled snowflakes we have created....they know the price of everything and the value of NOTHING!”

That sums it up so beautifully.
