I think the President was more than helpful in the Florida outcome.
After Beto, the trans-hispanic's near hit on Cruz, the real hispanic, I would not be quick to assume Texas is a sure thing in 2020.
I've come to the conclusion that as long as the black & Jewish vote is liberal monolithic, that is proof the libs game plan of identity politics is still successful.
When a Pubbie gets 14% of the black vote, against a black communist racist, and those on the right are ecstatic, that says a lot about how desperate we are.

3) Maybe they're similar to Cubans: if you are entrepreneurial, you go to Miami; otherwise you end up in Jersey City or the Bronx.
No kidding. It’s not like any of the races were total blowouts. If they can move the needle a few more points within one or two more cycles conservatives will be in trouble.

PR had a good (GOP) governor briefly, about 10 years ago, and SEIU did a massive campaign and got him out because he was trying to get rid of the swollen bureaucracy and state apparatus that has long been sucking the life out of PR. However, he was well liked and in his brief stay, he did a lot for PR, which needs an economy where everyone’s highest dream is NOT to be working for the state.
I’ve always thought that the big problem with PR is that many Puerto Ricans were formed by their years in the Democratic Socialist City of New York, but unlike New York, Puerto Rico has no unabashed capitalists or independent economy to carry it forward. It’s all handouts and dysfunction and corruption all the time.
I was staying in a hotel in PR when they had the governors election where the GOP governor lost, and the entire staff was crushed, because business had been doing really well under him and these people wanted a shot at a functioning economy. So I wouldn’t assume that Puerto Ricans, especially those with the resources to come to the mainland, are automatically Dem voters.

I’m leaning toward thinking about 200,000 black people in FL flipped from D to R since 2016. That would have made up the difference. Trump got 8% of the FL black vote, DeSantis got 14%. Fl has 3.3 million black people. This is still a guess until we get some good exit polling.
Somebody here informed me most of the hurricane refugees already went back, but I didn’t see documentation.

There weren’t enough Maria-exiled-to-Florida Puerto Ricans to make a big difference. At the most, it was only around 50,000 Puerto Ricans that left P.R. for Florida, and not all were of voting age.

Not aware of Trump’s business arrangements that might have benefited from billy boy clinton’s destruction of the greatest industrial and educational benefit Congress provided to the Puerto Rican Territory from 1976!!
Wage credits gave companies incentives to create the maximum number of jobs under section 936 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service — approved by Congress in 1976 to allow companies to send profits to the U.S. with minimal taxes.
Since section 936 expired 10 years after Bill Clinton pushed for it to be stopped, and thus putting over 2 million skilled Puerto Rican professionals (chem engineers etc) and companies are reducing the size of their workforces, a cloud of uncertainty has formed over small cities where pharmaceuticals have clustered including Cidra, Manati and Barceloneta.
The mayor of Cidra, Angel Malave Zayas, whose city will lose $2.8 million in annual taxes and 900 jobs from the GlaxoSmithKline plant alone.
When 936 was in place, every 3 years Big Pharma cos. would sell each other’s plants to each other and take 3 more years of tax free profits and tax advantaged employment to PR people. It all has since, from that time, the biggest- have gone to Ireland who made special arrangement to get their manufacturing jobs. Thanks to the powder monkey “friend” to working people.. Orlando/Orange county is deep blue. The Democratic candidate for sheriff got more than 40% of the vote despite being a felon arrested 13 times in the past 20 years. The winner was the former police chief who had been a Republican but did not register as a Democrat in time to be listed that way on the ballot as a Democrat. He was “NPA”, no party affiliation. The only way he squeaked out a win was by name recognition.
Needless to say, virtually every Democrat carried the county.
I have seen articles indicating that there was an increase of successful votes for Dems down ballot, especially in the Houston area. Perhaps some voters there have become more sympathetic to the global warming/mega storm/flood idea which, of course, our President denies.
