Florida voters overwhelmingly approved a measure on the ballot on Tuesday to ban greyhound racing throughout the state by the end of 2020 - though some warn dogs may be left homeless as a result.

Amendment 13, which required 60 per cent support in Tuesday’s voting, unexpectedly received a whopping 69 per cent, easily ensuring passage.

That means that the 11 greyhound racing tracks in Florida will be put out of business within the next two years, according to NBC News.

Now the challenge will be to find new homes for the up to 7,000 greyhound dogs who will be unemployed

Look a little deeper——Florida real estate is very valuable. Those racing tracks use a fair amount of space.

How many condos could be put there instead, and LOTS more property taxes collected?????

There is a charity here, Going Home Greyhounds, which adopts out greyhounds who are either retired or could not make the cut in training.

Dog racing is legal in West Virginia, about an hour from here.

I read that thousands of greyhounds were euthanized in another state which had banned dog racing. Why didn’t they even attempt to adopt them out? People seem eager to adopt retired greyhounds.

Plot for the pilot of The Simpsons. Homer doesn’t get his bonus and can’t buy Christmas gifts for the family. But their gift becomes a greyhound, Santa’s Little Helper, who gets chased away from the track for being a loser.

Best line from Bart: “And if he ever runs away, he’ll be easy to catch!”

The greyhound racers are not pet owners, they are livestock breeders. The greyhounds will not be losing a "home" as the headline says, they will be slaughtered as excess overhead.

When greyhound racing was banned in Arizona, we found piles of them dead along I-8 by the Algodones dunes for weeks. The breeders were, for the most part, heartless scum.

Very sad.

I go down to Palm Beach pretty regularly; and sometimes when I do, I go over to the Palm Beach Kennel Club. I mostly go to watch the horse races, but sometimes, especially with my granddaughter we go to watch the dog races.

So, sure, most of the Florida population couldn't care less about dog racing; but they get to tell those of us who like it to pound salt.

Welcome to the new Amerika.

They do; and in the process they trivialize historical abominations.

Several decades ago, when I first became concerned about the animal ‘rights’ movement, I saw a book on the subject that included a drawing of a Black man in a muzzle. They were definitely trying to engage the sensibilities of people concerned about the historical treatment of Black people and consequently, whether they realized it or not (???) equating those people with animals.

I always wondered why people didn’t get upset about this. But the left does it all the time - witness the homosexual lobby, which has always made a point of equating its struggle with the struggle of African Americans. They seem to have no problem with trivializing the concerns of those whose suffering they are co-opting.
